Two arrested after drugs, gun found in car
Two people were arrested after officers found methamphetamine, a loaded sawed-off shotgun and other items in their car Saturday morning, according to Lodi police.
Officers were called to the 200 block of Daisy Avenue at 10 a.m. after someone in the neighborhood saw what appeared to be a suspicious vehicle, Sgt. Chris Jacobson said.
Officers found a plastic bag of methamphetamine in an interior door handle, so they searched the car and found more methamphetamine, a large amount of marijuana, a digital scale, the shotgun and extra ammunition, Jacobson said.
Katrina Oswalt, 25, of Lodi, and Ralph Perez, 28, of Stockton, were arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale, methamphetamine for sale, a sawed-off shotgun, a concealed weapon, a loaded firearm in a public place and narcotics while armed, police said. One of them also had a switch-blade knife, Jacobson said.
Armed robbery at Thornton gas station
Two teenagers reportedly committed an armed robbery at a Chevron station on Walnut Grove, just east of Interstate 5, in Thornton.
The teens, armed with a handgun, entered the gas station at about 4:30 a.m. Friday and demanded money and took an undetermined amount of cash, according to a sheriff's report. They were last seen running east from the station, according to the report.
One suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 16 to 17 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall, thin build, wearing black-colored shirt, pants and a red-hooded jacket.
The other suspect was described as Caucasian male, 16 to 17 years old, 6 feet tall, medium build, wearing a black-hooded jacket.
Solar Discovery Faire this weekend
The public is invited to a Solar Discovery Faire sponsored by the city of Lodi this weekend.
Among other things, participants will learn about the magic of solar cooking, learn to make solar etchings and build a model solar car. Admission is free.
The faire runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be held at Woodbridge Elementary School, 1290 Lilac St. For more information, call the Electric Utility Department at 333-6815 or visit www.solarschoolhouse.org.
Galt group sponsoring candidates forum
The Galt Coalition for a Better Education is sponsoring a forum for candidates of the Galt City Council and Galt Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees on Friday. Translation services for Spanish-speaking voters will be on hand.
The Galt Coalition for a Better Education was formed by Galt community members in 2006 in response to parents' concerns about the state of their children's education in the local public schools. Since then, it has broadened its focus to include other social justice issues in the Galt community.
The candidates forum will be held in the Anthony Pescetti Community Room, located at the Galt Police Department, 455 Industrial Drive. The first half, for the school board candidates, will begin at 6 p.m., with the City Council candidates portion starting at 7:30 p.m.

Countywide science focus group set
Educators and members of the public interested in the California Science Framework are invited to participate in a focus group later this month. San Joaquin County was chosen as one of only four sites across the state for such a study.
Participants will receive an introduction of the California Science Framework review process and participate and discuss the current framework, according to a press release issued by the county office of education.
The meeting will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Oct. 27 at the San Joaquin County Office of Education building, 2707 Transworld Drive, Stockton.
