The latest news on local athletes who are continuing to play at the college or pro levels.

Bobby Shepard
Sport: Football
High School: Lodi
College: Fresno State
The redshirt freshman handled all of the special teams long-snapping duties in the Bulldogs' 45-32 win in their second Western Athletic Conference game at home against visiting Idaho on Saturday in a regionally-televised college football game on FSN Sports. Shepard was in on 11 plays, four of them coming on punts and the other seven on point after touchdowns or field goals. Fresno St. is now 4-2 overall.

Jordan Whitley
Sport: Football
High School: Lodi
College: Hastings (Nebraska)
Whitley ran the ball 12 times for 44 yards in Hastings' 63-13 loss to Morningside College on Saturday. Two weeks ago, in Hastings' 35-0 victory over Dorbt College, Whitley ran for 35 yards on four carries. In the three games he has played in this season, Whitley has totaled 78 yards on 19 carries for the Broncos (4-3).

Jon Davis

College: Azusa Pacific
The Cougars had a bye this week. They will play Southern Oregon in Ashland, Oregon next Saturday.

Azusa Pacific (1-5) had a bye this week.

Jason Beilstein
Sport: Football
High School: Tokay
College: South Dakota School of Mines
Beilstein, a 6-6 junior starting tight end, had one catch for three yards in the Hardrockers' 27-19 loss to Jamestown College on Saturday. Beilstein now has 29 catches for 330 yards and four touchdowns in five games for SDSM (4-2) this season.

Dea Cook
Sport: Soccer
High School: St. Mary's
College: UCLA
Cook is in her junior season as a starting defender for the Bruins, who hold down the No. 4 spot in the NCAA national rankings. UCLA (10-0-2) defeated Washington State 2-1 in double overtime on Friday in the Pac-10 opener for both teams. Cook has spearheaded a UCLA defense which has allowed just two goals in 91 shot attempts all season. Cook has started all 12 games and played 825 minutes.
