On a man testifying about his drug use and the shooting of his girlfriend in Flag City:
"Now he knows what his brain is like on drugs. Think he will try it again? He has been well coached though. His story flows a little too easily not to have been coached." — OTH
"I believe his story, truly I do. I've seen people on drugs and what they are like, so this scenario is 100 percent possible, especially with meth. But do I think this should get him off from what he did? Nope. He should be found guilty and do the time. End of story. The sad thing is had she not told [police] she was OK [in a standoff several days before the shooting] and just went with the cops she would probably be alive. Love and drugs are a bad combination." — LodiReaderFromStockton
On a letter to the editor blaming developers for the housing crisis:
"I sure [don't] remember seeing developers holding guns to the heads of all those people buying houses. It's called supply and demand. ... Developers filled a need, nothing more. But hey, they are easy to blame for the stupidity and greed of main street." — T jefferson
"I blame the buyers who were buying homes they couldn't afford and lenders who knew they couldn't afford them, but gave them the money anyway because they were making big money on loan fees. The developers were merely fulfilling a demand; that's what American business does." — Cogito
On a column urging the San Joaquin Delta College board not to make more decisions until after board elections:
"If anything they need to work on the campus in Stockton first. Stop wasting time on making campuses in other locations. Why don't they just use existing schools in the evening for those students who want to go to college? Most of them anyway work during the day. I had plenty of classes at night. It would have been better for me if they were closer to town where I lived." — marzo2008
