Green jobs will help climate crisis

Thursday, October 9, 2008 7:31 AM PDT

We can address the climate crisis and put people to work at the same time with a clean energy economy fueled by green jobs.

A clean energy economy will create millions of new green jobs that America desperately needs, jobs that can't be outsourced and use the skills of today's workers. Green jobs aren't just the jobs of the future — they are the jobs of today.

The oil and coal companies have spent millions in lobbying and advertising to block the switch to clean energy. We need to take back this country and repower America by letting our leaders know that we want this new clean energy economy now.

Americans are ready for bold action. We can revitalize our economy with good jobs, clean, renewable energy and a healthy climate.

The Rev. Jeffrey Earl Womble

" dogs, that is common knowledge at this point. You haven't uncovered some hidden nugget. Obama has been vetted ad nauseum. In fact, he had the option of using his mother's maiden name of Denham as well, but as Bill Maher asked, who would vote for a Barry Denham? "

" As a side note, Barak "Barry" Obama will gut the military. Barry who you ask, thats the name Obama used in his college days. Look it up you Obama votes, open your eyes. If he wins, remember you voted for him, and kiss the defence of this country good-bye. "

" Here`s my advice to you Rev, perhaps you can sell your rantings to your sheep, however it would seem your not up to speed as to how power is produced in California. Neither coal or oil is a major player, rather both have little or nothing to do with making of electricy, that job is left to hydro, nuclear, and mostly natural gas. Jeffrey, I would ask you, first where is all the money coming from to create green jobs and secondly where are you going to install your green components? You will never see a power plant taken off line due to what solar or wind power can produce in it`s place. I would suggest the good Rev. do some home work before he inserts his foot into his mouth. Maybe devine intervention works on Sunday, but man will have to solve his own problems since he created them in the first place. Perhaps loosing that tax excemption statis would help pay for going green. "

" .
I have a real issue with this statement:

"The oil and coal companies have spent millions in lobbying and advertising to block the switch to clean energy."

The statement is fundamentally true, but the notion that the OIL COMPANIES could keep other Billionaire investors from forwarding such a cutting edge technology is absurd at best.

If there were a viable alternative energy technology that could be mass produced, and could be sold cheaper than current energy sources - there would be investors ALL OVER IT in a very short amount of time. BILLIONAIRE investors like the GATES / FORBES / MURDOCH, etc who would jump at the change to turn their billions into hundreds of billions.

The reality of the situation is - there are not yet any viable energy alternatives ready to be COST EFFECTIVELY MASS MARKETED to the public.

As a side note - Barak Obama doesn't seem to get that concept. "

"Millions, really? If you say so, but then it will inevitably cause a loss of jobs as well, especially from those in the fossil fuel energy. It's all relative.

". . . that can't be outsourced and use the skills of today's workers."

Who says they can't be outsourced?

"Clean energy economy"
Just what is that and how would you bring it about?

Pretty much everything else in the letter is just repetitious excess that should be eliminated "

" Well, if mere words were capable of solving our problems, this letter would certainly do the trick.

The only thing that I gleaned from Reverend Womble's tome was that "Green jobs" are the answer to our climatic woes. "Green jobs aren't just the jobs of the future they are the jobs of today," he insists. Yet he gives no examples of what these magic jobs might be. He goes on insisting that, "We need to take back this country and repower America by letting our leaders know that we want this new clean energy economy now." Well, just what is "this" new clean economy of which he speaks?

This is classic Orwellian doublespeak that offers nothing to resolve whatever problems there "might" be. However, I can see in my mind's eye the countless number of so-called intellectuals reading his letter nodding their heads in agreement as if some new and startling solution had just been delivered unto them. Perhaps Womble is really Al Gore incognito?!?

This is just more nonsense that the LNS, in their continued infinite "wisdom" chose to waste newsprint on. "

" Cotigo, they only become economically viable when there is up-front investment. Like when a new computer or cell-phone comes out - it's horribly expensive at first, but the price comes down rather quickly as early adopters start to acquire the technology for personal use. Somebody had to invest in R&D and bringing the product to market, though. It's not going to magically become available and affordable. With wider availability comes affordability, and wider availability is only achieved through capital investment up-front. "

Cogito wrote on Oct 9, 2008 7:57 AM:

" When green energy becomes a less expensive, more efficient alternative, the industry will bloom. If it doesn't, it will be nothing more than a money pit. Viable alternatives to fossil fuels will be a welcome part of our economy. But only when they're economically viable. "

" Great Rev, since there is no man-made climate crisis and magically the planet has stopped heating up for the last 10 years, maybe we can have some more malinvestment by the government. How are we going to pay for this? I have an idea, let's start taxing the churches for everything they come up with. Don't like abortion, lets tax the church so they can pay the health care and criminal cost the population of unparented children explodes. Want green energy, tax the church to pay for it. Still like the idea? Stick to saving peoples souls and let other people deal with the real problems unless you want to put skin in the game. "
