Lodian offering services as security consultant
After spending 25 years in the security guard business, Don Massengill has weighed the ins an outs of commercial and industrial protection. His solution wasn't to use security guards at all.
Massengill believes that taking human beings out of the equation is the best means for security. Which is why he has begun offering his expertise as a security consultant.
For no fee, Massengill will meet with a prospective client, determine what their risks and assets are and then recommend the best course of action. In most cases, he said that would be wiring the business for cameras that can be remotely monitored. If trouble erupts, the proper authorities would be contacted, without putting private security personnel in danger.
Massengill said he would meet with clients to put together a package that protects against burglary and fire, incoporates closed-circuit TV and uses access control (such as ID badge) for increased security.
Not only does Massengill believe that security guards shouldn't be put in harm's way, he also believes that with technological advances — remote monitoring systems being the primary example — they won't be necessary in the not-so-distant future.
"One of the biggest things I'm trying to do is help the small mom and pop stores at the best possible price," Massengill said.
In addition to security consulting, Massengill is also offering pilot car services for big rigs and wide-load haulers. It's a service he believes is just another extension of the security industry, as it helps to keep drivers and other traffic safe.
Massengill is also an agent for the Primerica company, which works with clients to help them become debt-free and financially secure. The company specializes in debt consolidation, mutual fund investing, annuities and different forms of insurance.
All of which, he says, is part of the security business.
