2 arrested after kicking, robbing woman of purse
A parolee and another Lodi man were arrested Friday after allegedly robbing a woman of her purse and fleeing to a nearby apartment.
Tyrone McDonald, 31, and Freddie Gonzales, 23, were booked into the city jail on suspicion of conspiracy and robbery, Lodi Police Sgt. Chris Jacobson said.
Police were initially called at 7:19 a.m. to a report of a fight near Sacramento Street and De Force Avenue. They soon learned that the female victim was trying to hold onto her purse as two men took it.
The woman had apparently been kicked in the face during the robbery, Jacobson said.
Both men fled as one witness followed in a car and others gave police descriptions. The men were last seen in an apartment complex in the 400 block of North Church Street, where police knew McDonald, a parolee, lived and matched one of the suspect descriptions, Jacobson said.
Police went to the apartment and found a number of people inside. Witnesses identified McDonald, as well as Gonzales, who was hiding in a closet, Jacobson said.
The victim had minor injuries that did not require hospitalization. Her purse was not found.
Street Faire set for Sunday
On Sunday, the Lodi Chamber of Commerce will hold the 36th Semi-Annual Street Faire throughout Downtown Lodi.
About 600 vendors dealing in arts, crafts, antiques and specialty items will be lined along the streets. More than 45,000 people are expected to attend the popular event, which runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Twenty to 25 food vendors will be offering many different types of fare to choose from, and eateries throughout the area will be open as well.
Two beer gardens will also be in operation.
The Street Faire is held semi-annually on the first Sundays of May and October.
