Flames dunk Bruins

Taylor Gums, Ashlyn Daniels and Haley Ring each scored twice to lead Lodi High's varsity girls water polo team to a 14-2 victory over host Bear Creek on Thursday afternoon.

Amanda Jorgenson had eight saves in the net for the Flames (1-1 San Joaquin Athletic Association) and Ava Dornbush, Cara Burcell, Jessica Vanderlans, Amy Daneke, Amy Jacoy, Katy Walton, Marissa Bell and Marissa Schuh each scored a goal.

Jake Lear, Michael den Hartog, David Brock and Kevin Schuh each had two goals to lead the Flames (8-6, 2-0 SJAA).

Michael Haley, Chris Orgon, Scott Denton, Joe Clay, Devin Nishizaki and Ken Westerterp each scored once.

Chris Fernandez had six saves and Daniel Shuler added four.

The Eagles dominated Harvest League foe Stockton Christian on Thursday night in Lodi in three games (25-8, 25-11, 25-15). Catherine Sinning shined with 12 aces and 19 assists, Alice Sokolova totaled eight aces, seven digs and seven assists and Rachael Crawford added three aces, four kills and four digs as the Eagles moved to 8-7 overall and 3-2 in the HCL.

Chelsea Merwin had five aces and two digs for the Tigers (1-0 TCAL) in the 25-17, 25-17 victory.

Ashley Schatz had five kills and seven digs, Brooke Malcolm had two kills, six assists and seven digs, Brittany Sweeten added two kills, two aces and eight digs and Paige Kininmonth had four digs.

Arianna Brusa had five aces and six digs for Tokay (0-1 TCAL) in the 25-1, 26-24 loss.

In singles, Alison Simon beat Celeste Sterling 6-3, 6-0, Anna Adams knocked off Wendy Hightower 6-0, 6-1 and Jacque Lore beat Ariana Aldava 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles, Katie Weeks and Anastasia Gonzalez swept Jess Praphath and Fe Tamarog 6-0, 6-0 and Collete Tse and Audrey Simon defeated Julie Nguyen and Jennivy Tabbay 6-1, 6-0.

In singles action, Galt's Christina Phillips beat Brianna Juhred 6-0, 6-0, Jana Hackett defeated Arielle Gomora 6-1m 6-3, Kasia Wilczek knocked off Amber Hultzman 6-1, 6-1, LeAnna Lucero beat Rachel Palacios 6-0, 6-0 and Kortney Smith beat Paige Finley 6-2, 7-5. Ponderosa's Rachel Becker topped Alexis Silva 6-3, 7-5.

The Warriors (4-1 Sierra Valley Conference) swept doubles play. Meghan Lucero and Noelle Buckband beat Brittany Hulzman and Sara Templeton 6-1, 6-1, Sarah Houghtaling and Devin Smith beat Jenny Park and Kaitlyn Roberts 6-1, 6-1 and Courtney Wright and Corinne Madison beat Kaleen Armstrong and Sarah Mosakowski 6-0, 6-2.

Marissa Hinchman shot a 2-over 40 to lead the Flames (10-0, 7-0 SJAA) at Woodbridge Country Club's Lake Course. She was followed by Kercia Brakel (43), Danielle Aldrich (53) and Courtney Schmidt and Sarah Boles (56).

Brittany Hamrick shot a 43 to lead the Warriors (8-3, 3-3 SVC) at Forest Lake's par-36 course.

Riley Sexton shot a 44 and was followed by Willie Douglas and Amber Garcia (48), Demarre Sexton (49) and Alex Hohn (64).

Tokay vs. St. Mary's/McNair


Cory Pack returned after having minor surgery last weekend and paced the Tigers with a first-place finish, breaking 18 minutes for the first time with a time of 17:59 at Dentoni Park in Stockton. Tokay lost to McNair 27-28 and fell to St. Mary's 16-49.

Other Tokay finishers included Tony Hernandez (19:21), Manuel Lopez (19:22), Marcus Wells (20:27), Bobby Sidhu (20:24), Josh Renteria (22:33) and Amitoj Mangat (23:01).

Tokay's Oscar Gonzalez won the frosh-soph boys race with a time of 12:05. He was followed by Patrick Johnson (13:10), Joe Alvarado (13:14), Damanjit Hundal (13:29) and Kevin Arcalas (14:38).

Tokay vs. St. Mary's/McNair


Tokay's Holly Rankin won the race with a time of 19:13. The Tigers defeated McNair 15-48 and lost to St. Mary's 27-32. Other Tokay finishers included Kandy Soto (20:38), Stephanie Rodriguez (20:48), Catalina Calderon (22:05), Serena Mall (22:07), Kelly VanderHeiden (23:39) and Ashley Bedi (23:49).

Tokay's Haley Kroll was third in the frosh-soph girls race with a time of 15:05 and was followed by Daisy Baltazar (17:16), Taylor King (17:54), Deyannira Moreno (18:43), Ashley Dickson (20:33) and Tiffany Barriga (22:56).

Rigoberto Gomez and Garrett McDonald each scored goals to lift the Tigers over Edison on Thursday. Hector Flores and Niko Gonzalez each had an assist and Manuel Tinoco was solid in goal for the Tigers (2-0 Tri-City Athletic League). The defense was also credited with playing an outstanding game.

Return to Kingdon III


Kingdon Drag Strip will host a day of racing on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Return to Kingdon III will include a car show and a variety of vendors with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the San Joaquin County Sheriff Department's air patrol volunteers.

The event will be held at Kingdon Airport at 12145 N. DeVries Road. The gates open at 6 a.m. and racing begins at 9 a.m. am and racing starts nine am.
