Tigers ace Trojans, stay perfect on the season

It came down to the very end, but Tokay High's varsity volleyball team kept its perfect record intact with a 3-2 victory (21-15, 25-20, 25-22, 18-25, 18-16) at Lincoln on Tuesday.

Heather Buzo led the way with 31 assists, eight kills, 17 digs and three blocks, Nicole Buzo totaled 21 kills, 13 assists, 21 digs and two blocks, Shannon Cowdell recorded 10 kills and 19 digs, Tori Nunez had seven kills and five digs, Olympia Lopez added three kills and three aces, Kelsey McCarty scooped 35 digs, Emrin Dhatt chipped in 13 digs and Lynice Schallberger had two kills. The Tigers are now 8-0 on the season.

Freshmen-Sophomores
Lincoln 2, Tokay 0


The Tigers fell in two games 25-20 and 25-15 at Lincoln on Tuesday. For the Tigers Brooke Malcolm posted six kills, two assists, one ace and five digs, Tori Schallberger had three kills, one assist and two digs, Ashley Schatz totaled six assists, one ace and three digs and Brittany Sweeten added two kills and 12 digs.

Audrey Whiteside served up eight aces, Kayla Hernandez recorded four aces, two digs and two kills and Arianna Brusa chipped in two aces for Tokay.

Lodi 5, Chavez 0


In singles, Lodi's Millia Hinchman beat Shiela Rodriguez 6-0, 6-3, Alison Simon defeated Mai Vang 6-0, 6-0 and Anna Adams beat Jessica Luna 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, Katie Weeks and Anastasia Gonzales defeated Sheng Moua and Pahnia Vang 6-2, 6-0 and Jacque Lord and Audrey Simon beat Lisa Lim and Yvette Martua 6-0, 6-1.

Boys Soccer
Varsity
Stagg 2, Tokay 0


The Tigers played an even game with Stagg in their first Tri-City Athletic League game on the year on Tuesday, but Stagg scored two second-half goals for the win. Tokay goalie Tim Rusher made seven saves, while Ammar Sublaban, Greg Backman and Julio Garcia shined in the loss.

Tokay (0-1 TCAL, 2-4-2 overall) will next host Edison at 5 p.m. on Thursday in another league showdown.

Rigoberto Gomez had two goals and Maurico Cortes also scored for the Tigers (1-0 TCAL). Nico Gonzalez and Taishi Fukuda each had an assist.

Zack Oden shad even saves in the net and Nathan Suess, Garrett McDonald and Diego Ruiz had outstanding games.

Marissa Hinchman shot a 41 and the Flames (8-0, 5-0 SJAA) stayed perfect in league matches with a victory at Woodbridge Country Club.

Kercia Brakel shot a 42 and was followed by Danielle Aldrich (55), Courtney Schmidt (56) and Julia Van Ruiten (62).

Christian Brothers 223, Galt 226

The Warriors came up just a few strokes shy of Christian Brothers on Tuesday at Bartley Cavanaugh's par 36 golf course. Galt was led by Brittany Hamrick and Riley Sexton with 38s, Amber Garcia hit a 48, Demarre Sexton carded a 50, Alex Hohn shot a 52 and Willie Douglas hit a 53. Galt is now 2-3 in the Sierra Valley Conference and 7-3 overall.

Allen Daniells and Dillon Smith each scored two goals for the Flames in the loss at Lincoln. Mitch Thomas added another goal and Andrew Watts made 11 saves in goal.

Trey Reese ran for 40 yards, Jason Mitchell had 25 yards and Brody Walker added 15 yards. Coy Pickett had five tackles and Andrew Strootman had three tackles and a fumble recovery.

Ruben Davis ran for 73 yards and two TDs, Dustin Hammonds added 87 yards and a TD and Isiah Davis had 74 yards and a score. Dylan Potter threw for 52 yards and a TD and Chris Leonardini had 98 yards passing. Ryder Morrison had 13 tackles, Matt Meehleis had seven and Brennon Berninger and Cameron Schubert each had five.

Pee Wee
Elk Grove 6, Lodi 0


Batie Tessaro lead the defense with 11 tackles, Anthony Jory and Brayden Colburn each had 10 and Brandon Donldson and Scott Mehl each had a fumble recovery.

Junior Midgets
Elk Grove 37, Lodi 7


Baily Reese and Chance Trammell each had six tackles, Timothy Sanguinetti had four and Nick Carson and Jake Toon had three apiece. Carson had 36 yards rushing and a TD.

Roman Butler lead the defense with 12 tackles, Brandon Michelucci had eight, Daniel Enriguez had six and Jeremy Shuman had five and a sack. Brad Wright had a fumble recovery, Nick Arnaiz had four tackles and Joey Rivera had two. Cheo Tessaro had six catches for 88 yards and a TD.

Golf
Hole-in-one


Al Clark recently hit a hole-in-one at Micke Grove Golf Course. Clark used a No. 7 iron to ace the eighth hole. Witnesses included Bob Gorbet, Jim Paul and Phil Schrock.

Correction

Lodi High freshman volleyball player Tyler Bartlam had six digs and three aces in the Flames' victory over Folsom on Monday night. Her name was misspelled in Tuesday's News-Sentinel.
