Women's Center, baby, and mom say 'thank you'
On Aug. 11, a Lodi mother returned home after her first day back at work following her maternity leave. She had left her 2-month-old girl with the baby's father. She was shocked to find the baby seriously injured.
When she tried to leave, she was also beaten by the baby's father. The woman eventually escaped to get help, only to return to her home days later to find it had been burglarized.
The horrible attack and its aftermath shocked local communities and moved people to action. The outpouring of support for both mother and child in the wake of this tragedy has been tremendous. Since the Women's Center's Lodi Office began collecting donations on their behalf, the agency has received more than $4,500 in cash and gift cards, along with a crib, blankets, strollers, car seats, baby clothes, and other supplies.
The Women's Center wishes to acknowledge all the individuals, businesses, community organizations, medical personnel, churches and schools for their amazing response to the request for donations recently reported in Lodi News-Sentinel. Donations came from as far away as Sacramento and Manteca. Special thanks to Lodi Memorial Hospital and the Ed Waldo Children's Fund for their generous donations. The genuine concern, kindness and generosity shown by all those who contributed truly reflect the heart of the communities in this region. Because of your support and heartfelt response, this mother and baby will be better able to rebuild their lives and create a home without violence. On their behalf, we thank you.
