Eleanor Hopkins
Active in community
Eleanor Hopkins, 89, of Lodi, died Sept. 19 in Lodi. She was born May 19, 1919, in Canada.
Mrs. Hopkins was an active member of Ham Lane Church of Christ in Lodi. She served as past president and member of alicante auxiliary. She also volunteered at Lodi Memorial Hospital for 15 years, where she worked at the hospital information desk, coordinated the Lifeline program and was past vice president and president of the main auxiliary.
She was an active member of the Women's Craft Group at the LOEL Center and honorary life member of the National PTA. She was also past president and founder of East Union High School PTA, in Manteca, and past president of the Stockton Business and Professional Women's Club.
She was a member of the first graduating class of woman officers allowed to join the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Auxiliary and served as secretary for two years. She was listed in "Who's Who of American Women." She was also a secretary for Stockton Unified School District Superintendents of Henry Quinn, of Stockton, and James McFarland, of Lodi.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Garcia, of Lockeford; sister, Lillian Palin, of Arizona; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Hollis E. Hopkins, in 1994; daughter, Holly Andree, in 2001; brother, Harry Young; and sister, Lorena Uhlich.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Donahue Funeral Home Chapel, 123 N. School St., Lodi, with Pastor Bruce Logue officiating. Interment will be private at Cherokee Memorial Park.
