Warrior spikers rebound, win Bruin Bash Tourney

After dropping its first match in the Bruin Bash, the Galt High School volleyballl team bounced back with three straight wins to come out victorious in the weekend tournament at Bear Creek.

The Warriors lost their first match to Franklin three games to none before defeating Bear Creek 2-1, McNair 3-0 and Stagg 2-0 to set up a championship rematch against Franklin.

This time Galt won, downing Franklin in two games. Amelia Raquel was named the tournament MVP with 48 assists, five kills, five aces and eight digs. Jaclyn Pinasco recorded nine kills, one block, three aces and 27 digs, Nicole Newman totaled 19 kills, two aces and 20 digs and Shannon Whitley added 29 digs and two aces to highlight the Warriors' weekend.

Galt (6-3) will next face Whitney in Rocklin today at 6 p.m.

Galt 204, Tracy West forfeit


Even after Tracy West had to forfeit Monday's contest against Galt at Forest Lake's par-31 short course, the Warriors still went on to play a round and turn in low scores. Riley Sexton carded the lowest score with a 37, Alex Hohn followed with a 39, Brittany Hamrick shot a 40, Amber Garcia hit a 42 and Willie Douglas and Demarre Sexton each shot 46s.

The Warriors are now 5-0 on the season.

Lodi 3-2 at Schmitt Tourney


The Lodi Flames dove into the 2008 season with two losses and three wins at the Schmitt Tournament in Fairfield over the weekend. On Friday, the Flames lost to Marin Catholic 8-5 and Valley Christian 5-3. On Saturday, they turned things around with wins over Saratoga (9-2), Live Oak (10-2) and Soquel (9-8).

Lodi (3-2) will be back in the water today at Independence High School in Brentwood at 6:30 p.m.

Galt 4, Union Mine 0


J.J. Martinez scored two goals and German Velasquez and Alfredo Mejia each added another to lift the Galt Warriors over Union Mine in Galt's first league game of the season on Monday.

Daniel Robles made five saves for the Warriors (7-2-2) in the shutout.

Galt's JV also beat Union Mine on Monday, winning 5-3.

Youth Softball
U-16


The Valley Heat 16 and under girls softball team won the 18 and under division in the Valley Heat Fall Classic held at Louis Park in Stockton over the weekend. The Heat went undefeated in the tournament behind the pitching of Gabby and Stephanie Magana. The Valley Heat team includes the following players from Lodi and Stockton: Alyssa Magana, Kortney Solis, Maggie Macfarlane, Olivia Calderon, Shaina Kharufeh, Noel Montes, Briana Billups, Kym Rau, Daniela Ruiz, Amanda Mercado, Gina Luiz and Kristina Gossett.

U-12

The R R Gold 12U girls softball team won all three of its games over the weekend to win the R R Gold Fall Classic Softball Tournament.

Lauren Watanabe pitched a no-hitter with nine strikeouts on Saturday in a five-inning win and another no-hitter in six innings for the win in the championship game on Sunday. Elisa Villavicencio pitched game one and Katie Lopez was catcher for all three games.

Leading the offense for the R R Gold with five hits was Marissa Murphy, followed by Hanna Holland, Katie Lopez and Lauren Watanabe with three hits each. Jamee Martinez and Ashley Del Real had two hits and Taylor Yray, Tori Mata and Gianna Lenoci had one hit each.

Sophia Garcia gave a great defense with four fly putouts in left field. The RR Gold also turned three double plays during the three games.

Gymnastics

Competing in a the Liberty Gymnastics Gyspy Invite recently, 10 gymnasts from Lodi's Impact Sports Center turned in one or more top-10 finishes.

Level 6 results were: Kira Quisin (younger division): bars (8.05, eighth), beam (8.625, fourth), all around (33.8, eighth); Kassandra Gessele (older division): vault (8.775, fifth), bars (8.3, fifth), beam (7.8, ninth), floor (8.825, fifth), all around (35.575, seventh).

Five Impact Sports Center athletes competed in the Level 5 category, helping the squad finish fourth place overall. Results were: Ellie Jameson (younger division): vault (8,475, seventh), bars (8.3, fifth), beam (7.8, ninth), floor (8.825, fifth), all around (33.4, seventh); Lxana Degrandmont (middle division): vault (8.725, sixth), bars (9.0, second) floor (9.225, third), all around (35.575, fifth); McKenna Uriarte (middle): vault (8.8, fifth); Desirae Azua (older): floor (9.0, first), vault (8.8, second), bars (8.5, fifth) and beam (8.3, eighth), all around (34.6, fifth); Daniella Mireles (senior): vault (8.85, third), bars (8.3, seventh), beam (8.575, fourth), floor (8.275, ninth), all around (34, sixth).

Impact Sports Center gymnasts also took fourth place in the Level 4 team standings. Level 4 results were: Alyssa Lindsey (older): beam (9.4, first), bars (9.1, fourth), floor (8.8, fifth), vault (8.975, seventh), all around (36.375, third); Mallory Bettencourt: bars (9.2, third), vault (9.05, fifth), beam (8.775, sixth), all around (35.375, fifth); Samantha Trejo: vault (9.25, first), bars (9.0, fifth), beam (8.35, ninth), all around (34.925, sixth).
