Lockeford Community Plan to be discussed

In separate meetings Thursday in Lockeford, the community will learn about the General Plan process for Lockeford and learn about insurance operations for the Community Center on Jack Tone Road and the future park next door.

At 9 a.m., the Lockeford Community Services District board will discuss insurance operations for the district-owned community center property. That meeting will be at the center's McDonald Building, 19456 N. Jack Tone Road.

And at 7 p.m., Kerry Sullivan, director of San Joaquin County's Community Development Department, will discuss the county's General Plan update with the Lockeford Municipal Advisory Council.

The General Plan will include separate community plans throughout the county. Discussion of a Lockeford blueprint for the next 20 to 30 years is not expected at Thursday's meeting. However, Sullivan will discuss the planning process, which will take about three years.

The MAC meeting will be held at the renovated Lockeford schoolhouse, next door to the McDonald Building.

National Public Lands Day set for Sept. 27

The public is invited to celebrate National Public Lands Day at the Cosumnes River Preserve on Sept. 27.

The event, recognized across the country, aims to reconnect citizens with parks and open spaces. The local event will be a tribute to the Civilian Conservation Corps, also known as "America's Tree Army," which worked to improve forests and parks during the Great Depression.

Attendees are invited to help spruce up the farm center at the River Preserve.

The start time is 9 a.m. and work will last several hours. Participants are encouraged to stay after and enjoy the preserve.

A sack lunch, a reusable water bottle, work gloves, close-toed shoes, pants and a long-sleeved shirt, sunscreen and insect repellent are recommended. Water and Gatorade will be provided.

The preserve's farm center is at 7300 Desmond Road near Galt.

Stockton freeway ramp to close on Friday

The connector ramp from northbound Interstate 5 to Highway 4, also known as the Crosstown Freeway, will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday so that crews can treat the bridge deck. Ten-minute delays can be expected.

Future of the Delta to be discussed

Representatives from federal and local agencies will participate in an hour-long congressional briefing of Delta water issues at 10 a.m. Friday at Community Presbyterian Church, 14120 Grand Ave., Walnut Grove.

Representatives from Congress, water districts, reclamation districts, county government will take a one-hour tour beginning at 9 a.m. A local biologist, farmers and members of Delta communities will also participate. The tour is not open to the public. The discussion, which is open to the public will be held after the tour.

The briefing is sponsored by Save Our Delta's Future, a community group dedicated to education and advocacy for the Delta and its residents.

Huber to kick off Lodi campaign

Alyson Huber, Democratic candidate for the 10th Assembly District seat held by Alan Nakanishi, will kick off her Lodi campaign with Lodi firefighters from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in front of 14 S. School St. The kickoff will include precinct walking.
