Oregon woman dies in accident on Highway 99
A 55-year-old woman from Grants Pass, Ore., died Sunday when she lost control of her car Sunday on southbound Highway 99 between Jahant and Peltier roads.
The woman, whose name was not disclosed Sunday, was air-lifted to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, but died from the injuries she sustained in the accident, according to a CHP report.
The woman veered off the right side of the highway, lost control and overturned through a fence onto the westbound frontage road, according to the report.
The woman's trailer full of clothes and other items were scattered in the center divider. Traffic was backed up about two miles as a result of the accident, which occurred at 3:38 p.m.
Coalition to discuss aiding hurricane victims
The Lodi Disaster Recovery Coalition — which helped Hurricane Katrina victims in Slidell, La., three years ago — will meet on Tuesday to discuss how the group can help victims of Hurricane Gustav and other major storms on the Gulf Coast.
The meeting, opening to the community, will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Ebenezer Congregational Church, 825 South Central Ave., Lodi.
Wilton man killed after explosion on his ranch
A 48-year-old man was killed shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday after an explosion at his ranch in the 11900 block of Peach Lane in Wilton, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
Sacramento County sheriff's deputies said they found the man, whose identity had not been disclosed by Sunday night, in an equipment maintenance building on the property. He was transported by a helicopter to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Sheriff's Explosive Ordinance Detail, special agents and explosive enforcement officers with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the cause and nature of the explosion.
