McNerney not the cause of high gas prices
I am a student who drives, and while it frustrates me to see the ever-so-high gas prices, I don't believe the blame belongs to Rep. Jerry McNerney.
Some people claim that McNerney is doing nothing to lower the gas prices. However, he has helped to introduce a bill that requires oil companies to drill wherever they can, including Alaska and offshore, not to mention the vote he cast for the increase of supply right away by opening the Strategic Petroleum Reserve while oil companies are getting ready to drill.
Instead of putting blame on someone who is clearly for lower gas prices and is doing all he can to make such a thing possible for the high gas prices, we should be looking at the oil companies themselves — while they are getting ready to drill, the rest of us suffer.
We cannot assume that because the gas prices are getting higher there is no action being taken. McNerney is doing an excellent job on his efforts; it's the oil companies who have yet to act on the demand.

Do you remember on a different blog where they were trying to figure out your name? It is the same thing here. By deliberately distorting another's name they are trying to take power over that individual in some small way. The mispronounciation of a name is a classic power trip. They know someone's name but either spell wrong (or mispronounce it) in order to feel superior or in an attempt to place Themselves in a superior place in other's eyes. "

It is unfortunate that the GOP can not find a decent candidate to run against Jerry, so he'll probably win again. Dean Andel is another career political wannabe (hello jack sieglock) who shouldnt be elected dog catcher. "

What is the point of distorting the names of people with whom we have a disagreement? Other than to invoke a smirk or chuckle from those who agree with the disagreement(s), to what end does this serve? Again, I am just curious. "

It is no surprise that we're in the position we are today. This has been foreseen for decades. What has happened is that once one crisis has been averted (but not resolved) our leaders become complacent and direct their attention to other more acute issues, the attention to and potential resolution of might ensure their continued employment in Washington.
Even that isn't the real problem, however. The American people are largely to blame for most of the messes in which we find ourselves. It is through our vote that our leaders are chosen. It is through our collective complacency that they are permitted to get away with doing nothing once they are firmly ensconced within the Beltway.
As we see prices falling even now, I am hopeful (but not certainly not convinced) that perhaps this time we won't simply turn our heads and allow the problem to fester until once again it raises its ugly head. "

This reserve is in place to make sure our military has the fuel it needs to fight a war. What happens if the gulf gets shut down and the Russians start more trouble in eastern Europe and we have sucked all the reserves dry? McNerney is trying to sacrifice national security to gain a few votes by parroting Pelosi's party line. It is disgusting.
There is no shortage of oil right now, there are only supply, delivery, storage, and refining, and consumption issues. Someday we may run out of oil, but not in the immediate future.
Sure, we need a better energy policy. But sucking the strategic reserve dry is a knee jerk reaction that will not appreciably change our situation for more than a few days. "
