Cross-country walker reaches Kentucky

Updated: Tuesday, August 26, 2008 6:12 AM PDT

B.J. Hill, the Massachusetts man who walked through Lodi, Lockeford and Clements on his way across America to collect messages for our next president, has reached Paducah, Ky, home of the National Quilt Museum, according to an e-mail he sent on Monday.

Since setting out from San Francisco on March 1, Hill has walked 2,605 miles and collected thousands of messages for the next president. He was in Lodi, Lockeford and Clements March 11-13. Hill received the following message to the next president from an artist from Anna, Ill.: "Perhaps we should have a voluntary-mandatory tax system. Supply us with a list of places where our tax dollars are needed, and let us choose where to send our money. We would soon know what the people wanted."

A 31-year-old Massachusetts school teacher, Hill plans to arrive in Boston shortly before the November election.
