Clayton Brum caps huge summer with victories at Oakdale Rodeo
Accomplishment: Lockeford's Clayton Brum, 12, won the goat tying and breakaway roping events last weekend at the Oakdale Junior Rodeo.

It's been quite a ride for Brum in 2008. The Oakview Middle School student took all-around champion honors at the state championships earlier this summer after winning the goat trying and tie-down roping events and placing fourth in bull riding. His performance also earned him a berth in the Junior High School Nationals, which were held in Gallup, N.M.
With about 150 riders competing in each division, Brum placed 21st in bull riding and goat tying and 34th in tie-down roping.
Family: Mark and Patty Brum, parents; two sisters, one brother.
Favorite sport: Rodeo. Brum has been competing since his mutton-busting days when he was 4 years old.
"It runs in the family," said Brum, who has a father that is a horseshoer, a mother that ropes and rides, two sisters that compete at the collegiate level and a brother that also ropes and rides.
Favorite athlete: Former rodeo cowboy Ty Murray, who won seven all-around world championships.
Favorite hobbies: Playing football and hanging out with friends.
Favorite subject: Physical education. "It can be fun," Brum said.
Crowning achievement: Making it to nationals.
Would like to meet: My great-great-grandparents. I never met them but I've heard a lot about them," said Brum, who recently completed a school project about his family history.
Plans: Brum hopes to have a career in rodeo.
The Athlete of the Week is selected by the News-Sentinel sports staff. Nominations are gladly accepted. Brum will receive a T-shirt courtesy of Lodi Sporting Goods for being selected.
