Words say everything

Wednesday, August 20, 2008 6:11 AM PDT

It's despicable how Jerry Brown changed the wording on Proposition 8.

The petition that 1.2 million California voters had signed, read: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." Brown worded it thus: "Eliminates the right of same-sex couples to marry."

I have no desire to eliminate a right, if it were a right rather than an invalid liberal edict a few months old. Gays have always had the right to private ceremonies, to pledge devotion, to write binding contracts. Fine. But the rest of us have always reserved our God-given right to decline equal recognition. Gay coupling is not equivalent to holy matrimony. You don't see a straight marriage partner who publicly advertises himself as a human toilet.

There is a reason we see so little description of gay sex. I would hate to write, and the News-Sentinel would hate to print, a full description of the open depravity that went on at San Francisco's "Up Your Alley" gay street faire, July 27. Most ominous is that San Francisco police stood by making no attempt to enforce the city's valid laws against indecent public acts. In a PC town, sex confers immunity. What went on at the street faire also happens in San Francisco's parks and squares. And it could happen in Lodi's parks.

The California Senate has before it a bill, SB 1437, that would make it mandatory for textbooks in California — math, science, history, English, reading, spelling — to teach the contribution of gays. Will your kids benefit from knowing perverted scientists? Do they need a paragraph on gays in their spelling book? Would it profit their lives to see a few article boxes revealing the unwholesome sexual habits of famous Americans?

Like Jerry Brown's wording, the Democratic push for sexual puff-pieces in school is a blatant attempt to overturn common decency so that what happens in San Francisco may become accepted in Lodi.

One glass of red was all I could stand, sipped every one but wife finished them off. Good thing I was driving cause she was loopy by the end.

Wine is not judged by the price. It is all in the taste. My favorite wine might taste awful to you. That is the joy of wine.

I had one wine at a Lobster feed I went to (ate the veggies and potatoes only since I can't stand Lobster) but everyone brought their own wine. There was a Chardanay (is that one red? It was a dark red wine) there that was the best i ever had, couldn't remember the name for the drive home but it left very little driness in my mouth afterwards.

Oh, and ports, I like my ports. "

Do you sell your wine? Must if you put so much effort into it. My brother in-law wants to start his own winery in the Willamette valley, Oregon. Suppose to be some good wine country there. Lived there ten years and it wasn't until the last year that I visited any wineries.

That determination led me to believe that this was your stance on the matter. I apologize if I wasn't clear in this regard or if I completely misunderstood your position.

However, everyone is free to voice their opinion about virtually anything they wish here. If someone believes that certain behaviors are perverted, then that is what they believe. As you state, "when it comes down to the nitty gritty of "sex" in general, who gets to decide what is "perverted" or deviant?" Mr. Stearns obviously feels HE gets to decide.

And my point with the old guy soliciting the services of prostitutes had more to do with the fact that he was not charged. I guess the police get to pick and choose which parties to an illegal transaction are the most at fault. "

You have the God-given right to believe it is wrong. And you do have the God-given right to vote your faith against it. You do NOT have the God-given right to treat with disrespect, hostility or open violence, verbal or physical. God's highest law is to Love God, Love self and Love your Neighbor.
You have the social right to vote you faith. You have a social right to disagree with it. But no one has the social right to force their beliefs on another group.
Some groups think gambling is a sin, some think it is an addiction, some think it is fun. Is it our "God-Given right" to demand Banks not be allowed to loan them money?
You can hate the sin, in fact we as Christians are called to fight sin. But we are to LOVE everyone, even if YOU find them perverse you have to remember that our God still loves them. This is clear in the way that you have responded to the author of this particular letter-to-the-editor. Yet here (and on another blog that you reference here) an old man paying for sex seems to have crossed your line as to what is "perverted" sexual activity. Now I don't know the old guy (and he is not I, in case you decide to take that route), but could it just be that without paying someone to have sex with him he might have no opportunity to satisfy those urges in any other way?

I agree that the author of this letter offered his opinion to do nothing more than cause uproar. But when it comes down to the nitty gritty of "sex" in general, who gets to decide what is "perverted" or deviant? There is nothing presented in the other article that even suggests that anything other than "normal" sex was being negotiated between the parties. "

Nice way to stir up hysteria about looming "mandatory" gay education. This is just another example of people who subscribe to wacko, irrelevant websites that cite half-truths and downright falsehoods and then jump on their computers to alert the community that the sky is falling, i.e., John Birchers.

As far as your obvious obsession with the details of perverted gay sex, why not also give us the details of perverted heterosexual sex? Or are you OK with that as long as it is between a "man" and a "woman." (Note the poor old guy who had to go to Craigslist to find a few women willing to service his "needs.")

And how is it that he didn't get arrested when it was obvious what had taken place? I guess it was the prostitutes' fault and the old man was a victim! "
