A multitude of health issues on the rise

Updated: Monday, August 18, 2008 6:18 AM PDT

Exaggerated claims and misstruths allowed the government and medical establishment to manipulate the majority who give in to authority and blind obedience, in believing secondhand smoke was harmful.

Hence the smoking ban in most public places went into effect not too many years ago. Because these authorities said that second hand smoke was harmful, smoking has declined, the anti-smoking hysteria continues and poor health has traumatically increased.

Heart disease, cancer and sugar diabetes are all out of control and obesity is no longer a laughing matter to a few adults, it has affected the children as well. Walk by any public school and notice how many obese children there are. Even the lunch provided by the district isn't a fit meal, not even for a death row inmate. Lodi has a population of approximately 62,000 and three dialysis centers to treat failed kidneys. Failed kidneys and most other maladies are caused by convenience fast trash food and beverages, over-the-counter pain medications and what physicians prescribe.

The criminal food and drug cartels have killed more people annually than auto accidents and wars, not smoking. The people have been distracted from the real health hazards, by the nightly bombardment of anti-smoking messages, creating a legion of obedient crusading smokeaphobe mutants who have a neurotic fixation to harass those who do choose to smoke where it is permitted. Their stupidity makes one's head want to explode. These indoctrinated zombies don't realize that the white trash diets and the abundance of medications they intake willfully are controlled and manipulated by the food and drug industries. Billions are made at the expense of national health.

In closing, smoking in excess can be harmful to those with respiratory problems but lets not get stupid or zealous about smoking. Behind premature health problems like cancer and other illnesses, there is not necessarily a smoker, but one who consumes all the American junk fast foods, which includes legal over-the-counter medications.

" REALTY, you'll never know, will you? I think you're very delusional. Adam, you're a kick, just stay away from Flag City! LOL "

" My parents came from families of 6 kids (dads) and 10 kids (moms). My dad, a 2 pack a day smoker, died of lung cancer at 55. My mom had seven brothers, two have died of lung cancer, both were smokers. My mom is the baby at 69, all the rest of her siblings are still living, none of them smoke. My dad has had one other brother pass away, of a stroke, he was a smoker. The evidence in my family is overwhelming as to what a poison cigarettes are. Sure, some people smoke and live long lives. Most people don't die from being run over by an automobile. But that doesn't mean it's not stupid to stand in the middle of the freeway. "

" Realty, is there anyone in Lodi that thinks any other than your pathetic ways who's not a nut or a kook? "

" lodisafeway - adam the nut tried that years ago when the council put the ban in effect. he wasnt successful then and he wouldnt be successful now. he shuld accept the fact that the vast majority of the community appreciates a smoke free atmosphere "

" As long as tobacco is a legal substance, those who choose to partake in its use should be left alone in that regard. Of course the only reason that there hasn't been a serious move to ban the product is purely economical. The jobs and taxes generated by this billion dollar industry would be devastating to our economy if lost regardless of its condition at any time.

On the other hand, as long as there are laws in place which limit where smokers are permitted to indulge in that practice, the rights of the non-smokers should be equally protected. As a non-smoker I enjoy eating at a restaurant without the smoke sneaking over to my table from the smoking section.

Conversely, the combination of alcohol and smoking is nearly axiomatic - the banning of smoking in bars was/is simply silly. But in Lodi it's the law and as such should be enforced. However, there is nothing prohibiting those who desire to change those laws from doing all that is necessary to effectuate those changes through the proper channels. It's a tough road to travel - changing laws - but certainly satisfying if they prevail. "

" Great letter, Adam! Both of my brothers quit smoking and blimped out. Now they have all kinds of health issues in a major way. My Dad smoked until he passed away last year at the age of 82 and was thin because he ate lots of raw fruits and veggies.

One thing you missed was that not all tobacco is created equal. I switched from "name brand" smokes to rolling my own from organically grown tobacco (and no, NOT wacky tobacky) and smoked Indian ceremonial tobacco during the transition. What amazed me was that, even though I continued to smoke, I experienced the SAME withdrawal symptoms I did when I tried to quit smoking; which lead me to believe the addiction factor in "name brand" cigarettes are the chemicals added by the tobacco companies NOT the tobacco itself. "

" My dad`s been smoking a pack or two a day and drinking over a pint of whiskey every day for almost 45 years now. Close to 70 years old now, all he`s got is a little high blood pressure. Healthier than most 70 year olds for sure!! "

Mr. Dados needs to see someone with emphysema and see if smoking is OK. "

" lodi's resident nut is at it again. he fails to recognize (or accept) that the citizens of lodi overwhelmingly outlawed smoking decades ago. get a grip adam - lodi doesnt want to suck up your left over smoke. "

" I think Adam Dados is a smoker with a rather large chip on his shoulder. He is also rather ignorant (or simply wishes to appear that way).

To state that, ". . . smoking in excess can be harmful to those with respiratory problems but lets not get stupid or zealous about smoking," forced me to refrain from bursting out laughing at such an early hour for fear of waking my household prematurely. Certainly most of the population would accept the "notion" that smoking is a direct CAUSE of respiratory problems, would they not? This acceptance is not simply anecdotal - the research that supports this "fact" has been tested many times over.

But it's the "criminal food and drug cartel" vs. smoking agenda that really has me rolling. Yes, it's Twinkies and Big Macs that are killing people-not tar, nicotine and the rest of the crap that fills the lungs of habitual smokers.

And for whatever reason the author finds room to throw race into the argument with his reference to "white trash diets." Just how could this letter have been any funnier; or more pathetic?!?

Bravo Mr. Dados! Bravo!! "
