The Squeeze Inn
Long-awaited Galt diner now open, burgers already town fave
The Squeeze Inn has only been open for a month, but already, it has earned a faithful crowd. Even between the typical lunch and dinner rushes, tables at Squeeze Inn in Galt are filled with mothers and daughters on lunch dates, local workers taking a break and families ready to satisfy their appetites early.
First-timers are there to taste the fabled cheeseburgers. Others are back for more.
The burgers are like nothing you've seen — unless you've been to the first Squeeze Inn restaurant off Fruitridge Avenue in Sacramento. A thick, juicy patty is cooked on a sizzling grill. Then, a mound of shredded cheddar cheese and a thick bun is placed on top. The cook places a large lid over the burger and tosses ice under the lid. The steam makes the bun a perfect consistency of soft, yet hearty bread. The layer of cheese melts around the patty and all around the sides until the cheese is fried and covering the burger. This cheesy runoff is what is known as a "cheese skirt."
Simply put, it's cheese heaven.
Travis Hausauer owns both Squeeze Inn restaurants. He's owned the Sacramento restaurant for seven years, but always wanted to have a restaurant in his hometown of Galt. The Galt restaurant is in the industrial area of Galt, on the corner of Pringle Avenue and Industrial Way. Both in Sacramento and in Galt, location is proving to be good for business. Dozens of workers can barely resist a lunch at Squeeze.
Travis Hausauer's son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Katie, are running the Galt Squeeze Inn. They say locals are especially excited about the new restaurant in town.

"People are excited because Galt doesn't have anything," Brandon Hausauer said. "It's been extremely busy."
Galt's Squeeze Inn has something the Sacramento restaurant doesn't: breakfast.
Served until 11 a.m., you can get a traditional diner breakfast of eggs, potatoes, toast, smoked bacon strips, sausage patties, grilled ham, corned beef hash or an omelet.
Order buttermilk pancakes with banana and cinnamon, blueberry, chocolate chip morsels or even smoked bacon.
Just down the street, Galt police like the new Squeeze burritos: a large flour tortilla stuffed with melted cheddar cheese, scrambled eggs with a choice of ham, bacon or sausage (potatoes are extra).
However, it's the famous Squeeze burger with cheese that has won the restaurant numerous local awards and a few minutes on the Food Network.

Every hamburger is a third pound of 100 percent fresh ground beef. It's topped with pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, white onion, mayonnaise and mustard and placed on a hefty sesame seed bun.
You can add mushrooms, bacon or avocado to your Squeeze with Cheese.
If you have a slightly smaller appetite, perhaps you'll want to try one of the sandwiches at Squeeze. The Teriyaki steak sandwich includes a quarter pound of steak, grilled and marinated in teriyaki sauce. It is served on a sourdough roll with mayonnaise and lettuce.
The steak sandwich is a quarter pound of rib-eye steak, grilled and served on a toasted sesame seed bun.
Another menu option is chicken or steak tacos. Both are made with white corn tortillas and layered with your choice of meat, lettuce, tomatoes, onion and salsa.
If you think there's no hope for the dieter at Squeeze Inn, you may be right. However, there is a slightly healthier option. The Squeeze salad is a pile of crisp iceberg lettuce with diced ham, turkey, three-bean salad, croutons and cheddar and Monterey jack cheeses.
