No perks for legislators
I agree with Ed Walters (Aug. 6). Something must be done to get the legislators to understand that they have a job to do on time.
In addition to the things Ed suggested, I propose that for every day the budget is delayed, each legislator will lose two days of pay. Also, no car, gas or per diem — they get nothing. Let's vote them out.
Also, I read that they just got back from a summer break. It must be nice to have such a job. No more breaks — nothing.
One other thing. No one provided me a car and gas while I was working, so I think all legislators should turn in their cars and gas credit cards and provide their own. This would save the state a ton of money.

As for our legislators being provided transportation, there are valid reasons for their receiving these vehicles although they shouldn't have the most expensive and opulent forms of conveyance.
As each member of the State Senate and Assembly represent Californian's in each district, they will either need to be compensated for the use of their own vehicles as they travel back and forth to Sacramento, or as a convenience to them for the jobs that they do we can continue to provide them with these vehicles. I certainly don't know what the costs are either way, but I'm confident that their having government-provided vehicles is not breaking the State treasury's bank. "
