Government shouldn't 'take care' of citizens

Updated: Monday, August 11, 2008 6:46 AM PDT

I read the letter from Arne Aasen and I just about laughed myself to tears. Why is it that Democrats feel that all citizens need to be taken care of by the government as if we are their children?

I don't want to be told what to do or think or act. I am all grown up and can fend for my family all by myself, and have done so for many years.

If you want the government to take care of you, go to a socialist country and be happy. You cannot legislate honesty, religion, work ethics or morality. These come from a family atmosphere and should stay that way. If you are injured, sick, lame or, as some feel, lazy, socialism is your ticket.

As far as guns go, if someone is mad at you or if they want something you have, they will grab anything available at the time to use as a weapon. Guns are tools, as are hammers, steak knives, baseball bats, etc. I have owned guns all my life and have never even been tempted to use one on anyone. I sleep soundly at night knowing that if someone comes into my home to harm me or my family or steal something, I can defend myself and family from such things. Do not make guns the bad guy; bad guys use anything they can get their hands on to force their will on others.

If Democrats had their way, we would all be running around with clubs and spears just to feed ourselves, and the government would provide the weapons.

However, giving freebies, affirmative action and welfare to the lazy, the selfminded, those with an attitude of entitlement and those here in the U.S. illegaly is an abomination and it will only escalate with an ObamaNation. And yes, I find both the Republican and Democratic parties corrupt and traitorous. Of course Democrats celebrate all that is foul and immoral while Republican corruption hides behind conservative platforms eventhough they are all about self. They are all incompetant elitests who will do anything to stay in power. The fact that government is increasing in size so dramatically indicates we are quickly moving toward a facist socialist nation. They are doing nothing to secure our borders and protect our national sovereignty. There are over 70 major sanctuary cities in the U.S. Our local, state, and federal governments are doing nothing to enforce our immigration laws. The NAU between Mexico, Canada and the U.S. is becoming a reality. "

If anyone thinks there is much of a difference between candidates should have their head examined. We should fire half of the politicians and put the other half in prison where they belong. "

" The thing Ed, is that these people want these things, but most of all, they want someone else to pay for it. Half the people in this country pay virtually no income taxes at all, so they're mooching off of the half that does. And Ken, fyi, the vast majority of us Republicans have no problem paying for services for the TRULY needy. 25% of those who make over 60,000 dollars a year have no health insurance. Why should I have to pay to take care of them? "

" Ed, nice advertisement for those wannabes who need to victimize someone who has those badly needed guns to sell on the streets. I'm surprised you didn't tell them where you hide them at? Maybe that'll be in your next letter to the editor. "

" Whoooo, stiff Republican...talk about a non-biased opinion article. I suppose if you had it your way Ed, there'd be no shelters/soup-kitchens for the homeless or regional centers to help the disabled. "
