Athlete of the Week
Gillett burns up the net
Accomplishment: Lodi's Amie Gillett scored five goals to help the California Cougars under-18 soccer team go 3-0-1 at the Pleasanton Rage College Showcase this past weekend in Pleasanton.

Gillett, a junior at Lodi High, also had two assists.
Family: Bob and Juli Gillett, parents; two sisters.
Favorite sport: Soccer. "I've been playing since I was little and I looked up to my sister (Stephanie)."
Stephanie Gillett played collegiately at Simpson College in Redding.
Favorite athlete: Lodi native Patrick Ianni, who plays for Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo and is a member of the U.S. Olympic team.
"He's a local athlete who got really far," Gillett said.
Favorite hobbies: Playing soccer, swimming and going to the beach, said Gillett, who visited Huntington Beach in Southern California this summer.
Favorite subject: Math. "I like the challenge of solving problmes," Gillett said.
Would like to meet: Chuy Bravo, the assistant to host comedian Chelsea Handler on the late-night television show "Chelsea Lately."
"He's cute," Gillett said of Bravo.
Crowning achievement: Gillett, who moved to forward from defender, said she's proud that she made a smooth transition, highlighted by her breakout offensive performance this past weekend.
"Putting the ball in the net is definitely a lot more fun than blocking it," Gillett said.
Plans: Gillett hopes to attend a four-year school and play soccer. Her top choices are University of the Pacific and San Diego State. She plans to be a pharmacist or physical therapist.
