A Californian makes positive move to Idaho
I recently moved to Northern Idaho after residing in Stockton for 35 years. For 30 of those years I worked as a parole agent for the California Youth Authority.
When I arrived to Northern Idaho, I was amazed to find that nearly all residents of this state were at one time California residents. The more that I inquired as to why they moved from California to Idaho, the more similar the responses were. Escape liberal politics of California as well as California's high taxes, the state of California's highest crime rates, poor uncontrolled schools and ultra-liberal courts. Many mentioned that California now resembled a third- world country.
Many of the new residents of Idaho are former California law enforcement and fire employees who have retired and desire a better life for their families. In Northern Idaho, they find a place that offers family values, openness and friendship, as well as a caring, giving community, similar to rural California in the 1950s and 60s. These values are what attracted our parents' generation to Lodi and Stockton and the lack of these values are driving subsequent generations away from central California and from California as a whole.
I was heavily involved in the Stockton community as a little league coach for 26 years, member of Quail Lakes Baptist church, trustee of the Lodi Unified School board for 12 years, member of the Stockton Parks and Recreation commission for six years, president of my local labor union for 20 years, etc.
An example of the differences in values was evident on the Fourth of July. Coeur d' Alene had a massive downtown parade. Thousands of residents lined the streets celebrating the birth of our country. Later that night, thousands more watched a great fireworks show. Similar festivities are held Memorial Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving or holiday season.
I recall last year the largest Stockton celebration was Cinco De Mayo. How sad!
I encourage all decent, honest residents of Lodi and Stockton to consider a move to Northern Idaho. It was a huge challenge for this sixth-generation California resident to relocate, but one that I sincerely have not regretted.
Contact me at weaver.bobrox@wildblue.net for more reasons to consider a move to Northern Idaho.

The missing man is John Cox, 25, from Sacramento. He was an associate of former federal fugitives Chevie and Cheyne Kehoe, who were arrested last month on charges of shooting at Ohio law-enforcement officers, The Spokesman-Review reported.
The shootings were videotaped and widely shown on television.
The searches near the Idaho towns of Priest River and Sandpoint were fruitless. They were prompted by information developed by the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms after the Kehoe brothers were arrested, the newspaper reported, quoting unnamed sources.
One of the searches was conducted near where the body of another missing skinhead, Jeremy Scott, 24, of Sandpoint, Idaho, was found last August. Faron Lovelace, an escaped Wisconsin bank robber, has been charged with first-degree murder after leading police to Scott's remains.
Cheyne Kehoe surrendered in Colville June 16 and provided the FBI with information that led to the arrest of his brother in Utah. "
