Runnin' Rebels capture title
The Runnin' Rebels 12-and-under girls fastpitch softball team recently went undefeated to win the She Devils USSSA World Series Qualifier at Northgate Park in Manteca.
Marissa Murphy paced the Runnin' Rebels with seven hits, three doubles and a triple while adding two RBIs in the tournament.
Mariah Moore smashed five hits and had six RBIs, Baylee Hirtel added four hits and two RBIs, Lauren Watanabe belted four RBIs and three hits, Taylor Yray and Gianna Lenoci had three hits and three RBIs apiece, Llesenia Torres collected two hits and three RBIs, Jamee Martinez swatted two hits and an RBI, Arianna Montiel slammed two hits, and had an RBI, Tori Mata finished with a hit and two RBIs and Kylie Flores added a hit.
Basketball
Lodi High
Former Lodi High varsity boys basketball assistant coach John Welch accepted a position as the junior varsity head coach at Lincoln High in Stockton effective June 9.
Welch coached the Flames for four years under Dave Nutting and won two San Joaquin Athletic Association titles. He also spent one season as the JV boys head coach at McNair High.
Triathlon
All-American City Triathlon
Lodi's Eli MacDonald took fourth place overall with a time of 22:15 in the All-American City Triathlon on June 22 at the University of the Pacific.
Macdonald, who will be a freshman at Tokay High this fall, also placed second in the boys' 11-14 age division.
The event consisted of a 115-yard swim, a three-mile bike ride and a 1.2-mile run.
Golf
Hole-in-one
Paul Polhemus sank a hole-in-one Wednesday with a No. 6 iron on the 170-yard No. 2 hole at Woodbridge Golf and Country Club's River Course.
Witnesses included Russ Humphrey, Kevin Pitto, Ken Paige Jr., Alan Pitto and John Mettler.
