Local horse trainer to hold vaulting camp this summer
GALT— Silent and gentle, a half-Welsh, half-Heflinger pony named Izzy slowly plods through the dusty dirt that fills her coral at Dry Creek Farms.
Izzy seems to be in her own world, oblivious to the woman standing perfectly poised atop her back. She doesn't even glance at the two girls waiting by the fence — part of a group of children who will have their chance to learn to stand, swing and balance on her soon.
The rider, Aleta Kotecki, and Izzy are part of a new Dry Creek Farms summer camp for children. This summer, Kotecki and Izzy will teach vaulting — gymnastics on horseback.
They will be part of the only vaulting program in the San Joaquin County area besides the group in Davis.
Kotecki has wanted to start a vaulting program at Dry Creek for a while, according to farm manager David Yee. Izzy gave her that opportunity.
"There is so much potential (for Izzy)," Yee said. "Her personality really fits this ... She's been perfect for this."
