Navy Seaman Apprentice Boriack

Navy Seaman Apprentice Elizabeth R. Boriack, of Lodi, recently completed U.S. basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Boriack completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations." This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. "Battle Stations" is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment.

Boriack is a 2007 graduate of Lodi High School. She is the daughter of Robin D. and Marc D. Boriack, of Lodi.

Army National Guard 1st Lt. Jarrett

Army National Guard 1st Lt. Troy A. Jarrett has returned to the 1st. Battalion, 143rd Field Artillery in Santa Maria after being deployed to an overseas forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Operation Iraqi Freedom is the official name given to military operations involving members of the U.S. armed forces and coalition forces participating in efforts to free and secure Iraq. Mission objectives focus on force protection, peacekeeping, stabilization, security and counter-insurgency operations as the Iraqi transitional governing bodies assume full sovereign powers to govern the peoples of Iraq.

Jarrett is a platoon leader with five years of military experience. He is the son of Steve A. and Debbie L. Jarrett, of Lodi. Jarrett is a 2001 graduate of Lodi High School. He received an associate's degree from the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell in 2003, and then a bachelor's degree from Fresno State University in 2005.

Navy Airman Apprentice Vargas

Navy Airman Apprentice Kevin L. Vargas was deployed in support of the global war on terrorism while assigned to the amphibious assault ship Peleliu homeported in San Diego. Prior to deploying, Vargas and more than 5,500 sailors and marines of the Peleliu expeditionary strike group successfully completed a composite training unit exercise and a joint task force exercise. The JTFEX is the final step in preparing the strike group for deployment and is designed to test its ability to operate in a complex, hostile environment with other U.S. and coalition forces.

Vargas is a 2005 graduate of Galt High School. He is the nephew of Steven R. Corbett, of Galt.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Dingle

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Dexter L. Dingle was deployed as part of the Peleliu Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) while assigned to the guided missile cruiser USS Cape St. George homeported in San Diego.

Prior to deploying, Dingle and more than 5,500 sailors and marines of the Peleliu ESG successfully completed a Composite Training Unit Exercise and a Joint Task Force Exercise (JTFEX) The JTFEX is the final step in preparing the strike group for deployment, and is designed to test its ability to operate in a complex, hostile environment with other U.S. and coalition forces.

Dingle is a 1994 graduate of Galt High School. He is a 2006 graduate of California State University, Sacramento with a bachelor of science degree. He is the son of Erlinda L. and Aurelio B. Dingle, of Galt.
