Elizabeth 'Betty' O'Brien
First United Methodist Church member
Elizabeth "Betty" Van Tine O'Brien, 97, of Lodi, died on May 23. She was born on Jan 19, 1911, in Lansdowne, Pa.
Mrs. O'Brien was the second of five children. 1958, she was the first woman elected to the school board of Evesham Township in New Jersey — as a write-in vote. She and her husband traveled widely in connection with Lions Club International.
She moved from New Jersey to Lodi with her husband James T. O'Brien and children in 1959. She worked at The Fabric Store in Lodi for many years. She was a long time member of Lodi's First United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Pi Beta Phi, Daughters of Founders and Patriots and Dickinson College Alumni.
She is survived by her daughters, Aline O'Brien, of San Rafael, and Catherine O'Brien, of Palo Alto; sister, Eleanor Slim, of Pennsylvania; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
