Habitat for Humanity dedicates home
Galt's second Habitat for Humanity home was dedicated Saturday morning in the 700 block of Simons Street.
The house was begun more than a year ago and built by volunteers coordinated by Ron Dameron in cooperation with the homeowner family, Roy Sumner and his sons. The homeowner partners are required to put in 500 hours of labor on the house, which they will then buy on a 30-year mortgage, Dameron said.
The Sumner family spent many years in Thailand as missionaries but have returned to the United States for their children's educational opportunities.
Local contractors who donated labor and materials for the construction of this house include Jeff Gates, concrete; Adam Hawkins, of Superior Electric; Tim Schumacher, plumbing; Pat Maple, of Roof Rangers; John Henke, backhoe; Robbins Garage Doors' Jose Gonzales, framing; and Richard Mendoza, painting.
Habitat for Humanity will build a second home on the property at Simons and Lincoln Way, which was acquired from the Galt Redevelopment Agency with space for two homes, Dameron said. An informational seminar will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Galt Police Station on Industrial Drive.
Reservations for the orientation by families interested in becoming Habitat for Humanity partners may be made by calling (916) 440-1215. Reservations are required.
