Recreation supervisor slot not eliminated yet

The Lodi City Council tabled a proposal Wednesday night to leave unfilled a recreation supervisor position.

The slot is open because of the retirement of Tom Alexander who was the city's liaison with the Boosters of Boys and Girls Sports.

Councilman Bob Johnson, with some support from Councilwoman Susan Hitchcock, questioned the wisdom of the cut. Johnson said today that City Manager Blair King felt there is time in the budget process for further discussion.

"We still haven't come a decision on it," Johnson said today. "I don't know if it will come up Tuesday morning at the shirt sleeve meeting or not."

" Isn't this up to the city council to make this decision, and not the city manager? I look at my power structure info and on top are the citizens followed by the city council and then the city attorney, city manager and city clerk, followed by the various city departments. So why does this city council comprised of five people who seem to be afraid of their own city manager? With elections coming up, any Lodian that wants real change should vote to completely replace this dysfunctional city council. This world is changing rapidly and Lodi needs to change along with it to survive financially. This council is completely clueless. Bottom line, if it weren't for Lodi Electric Utility District and the outrageously high rates and constant rate increases, this town wouldn't be surviving. LEUD pays the bills and lines the city coffers each and every month. Your council knows that the time is coming when LEUD will be no more and they're doomed to final bankruptcy. That day is coming sooner than you think. Where will Lodi get all that new funding for all those new homes and the development that comes along with it? There's not enough money now for police, fire, park and street maintenance, water, etc, now so where will the money trees grow to sustain these new developments? "
