Facts about Myanmar

  • Myanmar, or Burma, is a primarily Buddhist country, with several ancient temples.

  • The principal cities are Yangon and Mandalay.

  • Myanmar is surrounded by five neighboring countries but its west and south regions are open into the sea. The Rakhine coast, on the west, faces the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean, and the southern Tanintharyi coast fronts the emerald green Andaman Sea.

  • The country has 10 major unspoiled beach areas. Five of them are resorts and one is a marine resort.

  • Many lifestyles and activities of the people of Myanmar are unique to them and non-existent in other parts of the world. An example is the Shin Pyu, or novitiation ceremony, which allows a young boy to experience temporary monastic life.
