The latest news on local athletes who are continuing to play at the college or pro levels.

Amanda Monday
Sport: Softball
High school: Galt High
College: Sacramento City College
The pitcher earned back-to-back complete-game wins as the Panthers (41-4, 18-1 league) swept a doubleheader against Sierra College on Saturday. Monday is currently 29-3 with a .054 ERA, 16 shutouts and 190 strikeouts in 192 innings. She's allowed only 74 hits for Sac City, which has taken over first place in the Big 8 Conference with two games to play.

Ryan Whitley

High school: Lodi High
Semi-pro: Stockton Trojans
The quarterback has completed 3-of-5 passes for 123 yards and one touchdown on the season and the Trojans are 4-0 in Northern California Amateur Football Federation play.

The sophomore right-hander picked up a win after giving up five runs in 5.1 innings of work and striking out seven for the Broncos (21-15, 7-5 league) in a 7-6 win over San Francisco on Sunday.

Pro: Bakersfield Blaze
The left-hander struck out five and allowed no runs in 4.1 innings on the mound and the Blaze (8-10) downed Lancaster 8-5 last Saturday. He picked up his first win of the season after throwing seven shutout innings and adding seven strikeouts in a 2-0 victory over Rancho Cucamonga last Monday.

Pro: Wisconsin Timber Rattlers
The right-hander won his first game of the season for the Timber Rattlers (6-7) after allowing no runs on one hit and striking out one in 1.1 innings of work in a 5-3 win over Beloit last Friday. He struck out one batter and allowed no runs in 0.2 innings of work in a 5-3 loss to Fort Wayne last Tuesday.

Pro: Tampa Bay Rays
The shortstop went 7-for-24 (.291) with two RBIs last week as the Rays lost five out of seven games.

The junior outfielder had a hit for the Tigers (29-21, 6-8 league) in a 4-1 victory against Newman last Wednesday. She added a single in a 4-2 win over Missouri State last Monday.

The junior right-hander struck out one batter while giving up one run in one inning on the mound for the Warriors (30-16) in a 14-6 win over Simpson last Saturday.

The sophomore designated hitter had a hit for the Bearcats (22-7, 16-6 league) in a 10-6 loss to Whitworth on Sunday. She added a hit in a 6-4 win over Whitworth last Saturday. She had an RBI in a 4-3 victory against Puget Sound last Monday.

David Cooper

The junior first baseman had a game-winning RBI single in the eighth inning for the No. 8 Golden Bears (26-10-2, 7-5 league) in a 5-4 victory over Washington on Sunday. He had an RBI and a single in a 7-4 win over Washington last Saturday. He went 3-for-5, smashed his Pac-10-leading 16th home run of the season and added a double and two RBIs in a 10-5 victory against Washington last Friday. He went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer in a 14-1 win against Pacific last Tuesday.

The senior finished 13th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.47 at the Larry Ellis Invitational last Saturday. She also finished 13th in the 200-meter dash (26.35).

Sara Watt

College: Sonoma State
The junior scored a goal as the Seawolves (12-15) beat Cal State East Bay 11-7 last Friday.

Ryan Mattheus

Pro: Tulsa Drillers
The right-handed reliever gave up no runs in 4.1 innings of work in four separate appearances last week while striking out two batters during that stretch as the Drillers improved to 8-9 on the season.

Pro: Duramed Futures Tour
The former University of Texas standout tied for 68th place after shooting a 72-75-76—223 (+7) at the Louisiana Pelican Classic at The Wetlands.

The sophomore outfielder hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot, and the Tigers (8-28, 2-10 league) lost 15-4 to Cal State Fullerton on Friday. He had a double and a single in a 14-1 loss to California last Tuesday.
