Section honors local athletes with scholarships
The CIF Sac-Joaquin Section will honor 48 student-athletes next Friday with A. Dale Lacky Scholarships, awarded for outstanding athletic performance, community service and academic success during their four years of high school.

Lodi High's Katelyn Griffin, Tokay High's Anne Heberle and Elliot Christian High's Amanda Stevens are among those to be honored at the awards ceremony, which will be held at Elkhorn Country Club in Stockton at 9 a.m. The trio will receive $600 apiece in scholarship money.
Griffin is a four-year varsity athlete in water polo and swimming for Lodi, also lettering in basketball one year. The senior, who was named Co-MVP of the San Joaquin Athletic Association, has helped lead her swim and water polo teams to league championships.
Out of the pool, Griffin is a member of the Key Club, the Block "L" Club and has been a teacher's aid at an elementary school. Griffin holds a 4.16 GPA and will continue her studies at UC Davis, where she plans to swim while earning a degree in anthropology.

Heberle is a four-year swimmer, also lettering in water polo the last three years at Tokay. She helped lead both her swimming and water polo teams to multiple undefeated seasons and league championships, earning league MVP honors in water polo this past season.
Heberle is a member of the Key Club, National Honors Society and Red Cross Club, and does volunteer work for such organizations as Habitat for Humanity. She holds a 4.18 GPA, and in the fall will attend Knox College, where she hopes to work toward a career in cardiology by majoring in biochemistry and biology. She will also continue to compete in swimming and water polo.

Stevens has lettered in basketball, volleyball, track and field and cross country for Elliot. Her cross country and track teams have won league titles, and Stevens advanced to the state meet in track and field last year.
Stevens has participated in Toys for Tots, Lodi's adopt a child program and Interact Club. She is also the school newspaper editor and CSF Vice President. Stevens, who holds a 4.04 GPA, is undecided on which college she will attend, but plans to major in journalism and political science while continuing to compete in track and field.
