History shows founding fathers were Christian
In response to the Matthews and Assen letters of March 20:
If there is one thing we learn from history, it's we don't learn anything from history.
Mr. Assen and Mr. Matthews attack and argue from an atheistic world view as demonstrated by their use of "revisionist history," which crumbles in the light of truth.
We know our nation was founded in Christian principle by Christians because history witnessed and recorded it so, and not just on paper, but also in stone.
We only need to visit Washington, D.C., and the capitals of our individual states to see God's Decalogue given through Moses engraved on the granite and marble friezes on our government buildings.
All we must do is read the documents and personal papers of our founding fathers and look at our states' charters and constitutions to see the authors had a biblical world view and a reliance on and accountability to God.
The words of both our Declaration of Independence and Constitution, contrary to statements by Matthews and Assen, speak to our Creator — "All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights ... life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; that the representation of the United States of America in general Congress assembled appealing to the Supreme Judge of the Word for the rectitude of our intentions," etc.; and for the support of this declaration with a firm reliance on the protector of divine providence."
Even our U.S. Constitution preamble alludes to God with the statement "blessings of liberty." The word "blessing" is defined as a statement of divine favor or benediction.
My questions to Matthews and Assen are — Have you guys actually read the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution? And if you guys don't believe there is a Creator, why do you try so hard to deny, denigrate and decry the "big spoke in the sky" that you don't believe in anyway.
