Dumped barrels cause hour-long road closure

By News-Sentinel Staff
Tuesday, April 8, 2008 6:17 AM PDT

Kennison Road east of Lodi was closed for an hour Monday while fire and environmental crews investigated a leaking barrel. The road reopened after they determined it was filled with leftover cooking oil and did not pose a toxic hazard.

Woodbridge Fire crews were first called around 11:40 a.m. to the road north of Victor Road. A 55-gallon drum and a another container were sitting on the side of the road, leaking a fluid.

They soon called for California Highway Patrol officers to block the roadway as more vehicles came from the San Joaquin County Office of Emergency Services and Lodi Fire Department.

After running tests, OES workers determined that the substance was apparently a kind of cooking oil and was not a public threat.

The road reopened shortly before 1 p.m.
