Cross-country walker gives update on trip
B.J. Hill, the Massachusetts teacher who walked through Lodi as part of a cross-country walk, arrived in Fallon, Nev., last week.
Since spending two nights at a ranch between Lockeford and Linden, Hill walked Highway 88 across Carson Pass to Carson City, Nev. He then took Highway 50 through rural Nevada.
While walking on Highway 50 on Easter Sunday, two people in an SUV stopped and gave Hill a banana, a bag of chips and a Bud Light, he said in an e-mail.
"When I told that story to my host later that night, he said a bottle of beer is the Nevada way," Hill said.
Hill has walked 348 miles from the Golden Gate Bridge to Fallon, as of last Thursday. His goal is for people throughout the country to write messages for the next president of the United States, whomever that might be. Hill plans to complete his trip on Nov. 2 in Boston.
Woman's remains found in Delta
A man fishing on a levee near Isleton found a woman's remains on Saturday, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the 1700 block of Tyler Island Road, where they were shown the remains hidden by dense brush, according to Sgt. Tim Curran. Homicide detectives and coroner's office believe the remains had been there about six months, Curran said. The woman's identity is unknown — as are the time, manner and cause of death, Curran said. Anyone with information is asked to call sheriff's detectives at (916) 874-5115.
