Pledge doesn't go back to founding fathers
On Feb. 19, you had a letter and a blog that dealt with the "God" controversy in the pledge debate.
The blog had a complicated solution of giving people choices to fill in. I have an easier answer. How about "One nation under the Constitution." This is really the law of the land.
The letter by the Rev. Sam P. Walls, gave the old argument that this country was founded on Christian principles. Strangely, he left out some of the founding principles and old traditions; nowhere in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution is God mentioned by name; some of the ideas from the founding days are "all men are created equal" — not women, just men, and white men at that; slavery was allowed; lynching was common; voting was limited to a select group of men; property rights were also limited; and child abuse was OK.
I find it interesting that some "religious" people use the parts of the Bible that fit their needs and the same with history. Sex between men is not OK. What about the Bible saying that eating pork is not OK? We have good and bad in our history. There is nothing wrong with trying to make this a better country. "God" was added to the pledge in 1954. The pledge itself was adopted around 1890. Neither goes back to the founding of this country.
I noticed the Rev. Walls used the old line about leaving the country if you are not happy here. Why can't someone who is not happy here work to change things? Perhaps my comments don't count since religious people like the reverend are convinced I am going to hell because of my religious beliefs.

it should NOT be changed back just because a "few" whine about it. we have a democratic system in this country for a reason, to hopefully / accurately reflect the majority.
leave it as it is, based on that. it can still be all inclusive, because no one is forced to say "God" during it's recital.
what i find heinously hypocritical, are those that "pretend" faith in God, but work hard to get HIM dismissed from everything they run across.
