Micke Grove sea lion passes away
Buster, one of the sea lions at Micke Grove Zoo, has died at the age of 26.
Described as a "celebrity" by zoo staff, Buster died on Monday, according to a statement released today.
Buster came to the Lodi zoo in 1983 after being born at the former Marine World-Africa USA in 1981. While at Micke Grove Zoo, Buster was paired with another seal lion by the name of Hannah.
The two bore five offspring, before Hannah was transferred to the Denver Zoo in 1996 where she remains on exhibit.
Buster was taken to the University of California, Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital for necropsy. Preliminary examination revealed a typical range of age-related health issues but no specific cause of death.
Sea lions usually live 15-25 years.
