Where are Lodi's 'designer dogs?'
Pets have always been a major part of family life. But now, many dogs are no longer the mangy family pets that sleep outside or protect the farm. They now come special-ordered with a hefty price tag on their diamond-studded collars. Just as lattes and designer handmades are made to order, so are these new breeds of dogs.
If you have a labradoodle (lab and poodle mix), puggle (pug and beagle mix) or any other dog that has been dubbed designer, we want to know. If your cockapoo (cocker spaniel and poodle) is adorable, we want to see it. Do you know someone who has a Bogle (Boston terrier and beagle) they want to flaunt? Let us know for an upcoming Lodi Living story on these cute new pets. Contact Lodi Living editor Lauren Nelson at 369-7035, or via e-mail at: laurenn@lodinews.com.
Machado endorses Filson for Assembly seat
State Sen. Mike Machado, D-Linden, has endorsed Steve Filson, a Democratic candidate, for the 15th Assembly District seat being vacated at the end of the year by Guy Houston, R-San Ramon.
A longtime Danville resident, Filson ran for Congress in the Democratic Primary against Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton, in 2006.
The 15th Assembly District includes Galt, Thornton, parts of Elk Grove and the Delta. Most of the district, however, is in the Livermore and San Ramon valleys.
Palos Verdes company to pay for wildfire scam
SACRAMENTO — A Palos Verdes company and its operators will pay $200,000 in fines for posing as insurance claims adjusters after the Angora fire in South Lake Tahoe last summer.
Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner says Paramount Disaster Recovery also agreed to pay the state $75,000 in litigation costs.
Steve Slepcevic, 39, of Palos Verdes, and Matthew Todd, 48, and Charlie Rose, 43, both of Redondo Beach, were ordered to cease and desist operations in August.
Poizner's office said they acted as certified public insurance adjusters and signed contracts with Tahoe-area fire victims.
Some agreed to have Paramount perform any needed repair work, or pay as much as 20 percent of any insurance settlement if the homeowners used another company.
The Paramount operators were not licensed by the state.
