Intelligence and the Bush administration

Updated: Wednesday, December 26, 2007 6:34 AM PST

The exposure of CIA operative Valerie Plame, by Lewis "Scooter" Libby is old news, whereas it relates to the Bush-Cheney administration's war "policy" on Iran.

The Bush administration cites the Mujahideen-e Khalq (MEK) as a reputable source of intelligence on Iran. I previously reported that the MEK was Soviet-created in the 1960's. MEK participated in the Iran hostage crisis and the Iran-Iraq war, and it is postured to accept a leadership role in Iran. Congressman Kucinich mentioned the MEK when he recently introduced articles of impeachment against Vice President Cheney.

What's wrong with this situation is Bush-Cheney and America could receive intelligence from Valerie Plame and her team, instead of the MEK, if the president's administration did not expose her. Plame was assigned to the CIA's Counter-proliferation Division, whose responsibility was to prevent nuclear proliferation. Plame and her team operated under elaborate cover, which included Brewster-Jennings and Associates, whose fictitious operations brought CIA operatives into contact with foreign nuclear operations.

In Plame's words, "18 years of meticulously crafted cover were gone in an instant." Every CIA operative who was associated with Brewster-Jennings was exposed as a spy, and their lives were endangered. The CIA Memorial Wall and The Book of Honor have a star of a fallen agent in 2003, approximately at the time of Plame's exposure. I don't believe anymore that Cheney exposed Plame to silence her husband, Joseph Wilson. Plame's intelligence competed with the Bush administration's policies on both Iran and Iraq.

" Brian: If we think logically outside of the reputation of the MEK, there is still a conflict of interest in the Bush Administration, whether we accept the MEK or not. The Bush Administration destroyed a legitimate CIA source, and now purport that they are taking "intelligence" from an Islamic faction that has a conflict of interest. You won't have any success in attributing me to being either liberal or conservative, rep or dem. I'll criticize either side of the fence. "

" voter: Thank you for checking out the statements, and for putting in a good word with Brian. In the course of your digging, did you by any chance find some allegations where the sources are difficult to confirm, because they are classified secret? ... that you would dare say in the comment column? "

" Don't discount his research, Brian. It seems to check out--I did some digging too. "

" DanielH and wtf,What kind of drugs are both of you on? This BS doesn't fly anymore. What part of your letter doesn't reek with a liberal agenda? Your implication that somehow the MEK
could not be a reputable source of intelligence on Iran is nonsense. Your scenario is flawed. What else do you see in your crystal ball? "

" wtf: Thank you for the endorsement. I have probably put in more research on this topic than any other. I found a lot of information, and I had to spend a lot of time examining what information was confirmed public information, and what was not. I would like to hint that this story even goes further than what I reported in this story. "

" Brian: Yes. Actually, there was a timeline of Plame being assigned to both Iran and Iraq. Also, this story has nothing to do with Democrat vs. Republican politics, whatsoever. Thank you for voicing your objections without first researching the topic. "

" Great letter, Daniel and the scenario you present is a very distinct possibility. Hey Brian, what drugs are you on? Better reduce the dosage, that BS doesn't fly any more. "

" Plame's intelligence competed with the Bush administration's policies on both Iran and Iraq? Oh Boy, Daniel, you're reaching now. I doubt the Bush administration would consider Plame's intelligence competition. The Democrats need to get over it. Just like they need to be a little less critical of the Patriot Act. It seems to me they are the ones who one to stifle competion when it somes to the Patriot Act. But then we must consider their rationale on this. Who else would want to eliminate such a key tool in fighting terrorism? None other than a bunch of mentally disordered liberals. "
