Flames fall to Klamath in overtime in tourney action
Lodi High's varsity boys basketball team blew a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter in a 65-59 overtime loss to Klamath of Oregon in the third-place game of the Dixon Tournament on Saturday.
The Flames (8-3) led 40-26 after three periods, but Klamath went on a 28-14 run in the fourth to force overtime and then outscored Lodi 11-5 in the extra period.
Scott Hubbard led the Flames with 23 points, but could only watch from the bench in overtime after fouling out in regulation.
Johnathan Herold added 21 points, including three 3-pointers.
Randy Denson had a game-high 24 points for Klamath.
Lodi trailed 11-6 after the first quarter, but rallied to take a one-point lead (21-20) at halftime before building the advantage to 14 entering the fourth.
John Clemons had six points for the Flames, Dakota Stroh had four, Ray Nikzat and Brad Wuest had two apiece and Connor Birtwhistle added one.
Lodi plays at Sierra on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Lodi 57, Klamath 47
Alex Niktaris had 14 points to lead the Flames (8-2) in the third-place game of the Dixon Tournament.
Ryan Gaarder scored 10 and Jordan Perkins, who was named to the all-tourney team, added nine. Kyle Larrabee had six points and eight rebounds.
Alex Santiago and Ryan Pudwell each scored five points, Dylan Silva and Grant Ogata had three apiece and Geeze Borges added two.
Niktaris was recently named to the all-tourney team at the Galt Tournament.
Freshmen
Lodi 65, Monterey Trails 48
Justus Panzarello had 36 points to lead the Flames (6-2) to a victory in the championship game of the McNair Tournament.
Luke Simon and Matt Smith both scored six, Graham Hall and Damon Herrin had five apiece, Collin Rhoads added three and Brandon Howland and Alex Faszer each had two.
Rhoads was named tourney MVP.

Lodi 35, Roseville 26
Taylor Sousa had 10 points and six rebounds and Jill Burkhard added 10 points and five rebounds to lead the Flames (9-2) in the championship game of the El Camino Tournament in Sacramento.
Amanda Barba had six points and six rebounds, Betsy Colburn had five points and five steals and Shelby Brendel had four points and three steals.

U.S. Under-23 Men
Lodi's Patrick Ianni had a goal as the U.S. tied China 3-3 in an exhibition match on Sunday at the Yue Xiu Shan Stadium in Guangzhou, China.
Iannia scored in the 25th minute, heading in a shot off a corner kick from Stuart Holden to give the U.S. a 2-0 lead.
