No need for war in Iran

Updated: Saturday, December 15, 2007 6:34 AM PST

Once again President Bush is beating the drums of war while playing fast and loose with the truth.

In recent weeks, he has warned against Iran's efforts to enrich uranium as a step toward nuclear weapons that may lead to "world war three."

Now we learn from National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley that Bush has known for months that Iran shut down its nuclear weapons program in 2003. According to Hadley's account published in the Washington Post, Bush was told in August or September of this year of the latest National Intelligence Estimate finding that Iran had shut down its nuclear weapons program years ago.

Never one to be distracted by facts, Bush has been ignoring the National Intelligence Estimate for months while fear mongering and misleading the American people.

Please write to your congressman and to Senators Boxer and Feinstein asking them to make it clear to President Bush that he has no authority for a preemptive strike against Iran.

" nsn_lodian: "Appeasement" is a misleading psychological political theory word, that is used to justify war just about anywhere in the world. It means that a young, aspiring militaristic leader, left unguarded, will spread into a larger dictatorial empire, all by itself. However, Adolf Hitler did not rise to power without external assistance. "Appeasement" is an understatement. The cartel partnership with a corporate European-American behemoth I.G. Farben was highly responsible for financial and engineering support for Hitler. What is most disturbing about this relationship is the fact of American membership in it. "

" tompazo: I like your term "supposed war on drugs." I'd like to add that the supposed war on terror is not real, either. "

" The fact of the matter is .. Iran is the CENTER POINT for Islamic Extremism in the world. It began with the Iranian REvolution, taking of American Hostages (under Jimmy Carter), and was allowed to grow into a larger movement mainly by Carter's inaction and inability to assert himself. Until countries like Iran and Syria are brought to heel, and punished for their fomenting of Islamic Fundamentalist hatred .. the world will not be safe. Cowards do not make great leaders. Neville Chamberlain never should have appeased Hitler before WWII, and we shouldn't appease Iran and Syria now. If we do, we are doomed to repeat the past (another global holocaust and war). "

" Sam, you are surely one of those who SCOFFED at the National Intelligence Estimate when it advised President Bush that Sadaam Hussein DID have weapons of mass destruction, then blamed Bush for acting on that information. Now that the information skewers towards your particular point of view, then all of a sudden the National Intelligence Estimate has credibility with you? This is a typical example of what is wrong with America right now. No one wants to to the "right thing" (regardless of politics). Instead, everyone wants to do what "their side of the political aisle" wants to do, regardless of what is BEST for AMERICA! "

" It's unfortunate that i havent read about many people realizing that it is our foreign policy towards middle east and other nation that causes a blowback of events that we have to deal with. Friends one decade, and an Axis of Evil the next is tearing us apart. We need withdrawal and non-interventionist policy to correct the mistakes we have made and the problems we are instigating. There is but few Presidential candidates who see this as the cause of the middle east's problems. Ron Paul being one, he is the most censored. Urgently, people must realize that the only solution is Backing off! Israel is a soveirgn nation, Iran is a soveirgn nation and to an extent Iraq was, should, and will be a soveirgn nation, and they dont need US telling them what to do! "

" Brian: I don't have to support the President to support the troops. As for Iraq, it is a fact that little or no progress has been made towards a political resolution of the Shiite/Sunni schism in the Iraqi government. Until such a resolution has been made, whatever temporary security gains our troops might buy with their blood will be in vain. That's not just my opinion, it is the stated opinion of General Petraeus and his top lieutenants. "

" Of course Leonard will write back and say he has and always supports our troops even though he was one of the many Dems saying failure in Iraq is imminent. Leonard, you accuse many of partisan politics yet it was you waiving that white flag, keeping in step with the liberal mantra of defeat in Iraq. It seems to me the theme for your hipocracy changes from day to day. "

" Leonard, Many people consider Kurdistan a country within a country. Kurdistan is made up of mostly Europeans. They are not a threat to the stability of the Middle East. It seems to me it's YOU who is out of touch with current affairs. Also, the Dems can't advance that the surge is not working anymore in Iraq. It's time for you to support our troops there and stop being so pessimistic. "

" Daniel - criticism of our elected officials is not only acceptable, it is required. "Haters," however go far beyond the realm of criticising. These folks simply make things up as they go along and hope that the more dense portion of our citizens believe them if they hear it long enough. I'm not worried about them, though. I am still naive enough to believe that the truth will indeed come through. "

" Leonard - I checked a thesaurus and no, "America Lover" is not a synonym for "Bush Hater." A Bush Hater is someone who consistently accuses the president of doing or saying things that are not true and/or are illegal. And they do this constantly without producing any evidence or proof. And the thing is, they never stop doing it. In part, that is the definition of a "Bush Hater." "

I take it you feel Bush should pick another country in the Middle East. I'm at a loss that you would announce that you feel most countries in the Middle East pose a threat yet you denounce Bush's proposal to keep a wary eye on the most serious threat in the Middle East. What makes you think he isn't watching them all? "

" JK: I guess "Bush Hater" is just a synonym for "America Lover". Bush exerted tremendous pressure on the Intelligence Agencies to cook the evidence he used to fraudulently lead us into Iraq. The same pressure was exerted this time on Iran. There were tremendous incentives for the Intelligence leaders to falsify information to support Bush's position and it is to their credit that they, at long last, placed patriotism above partisanship. You seem to be happy with the propaganda that fills the air of the liberal media. "
