New hotel planned for Kettleman Lane
Lodi will add 89 hotel rooms to its growing tourism infrastructure late next year when a family owned company plans to open a Comfort Suites.
Kim Family Properties, which is owned by the Lodi family of the same name, recently sold the Comfort Inn on Cherokee Lane and plans to build the new 63,000 square-foot Comfort Suites on Kettleman Lane at Beckman Road, Beth Kim said.
"It's always been a long-term goal to build a new hotel," she said. "I'm very excited to bring a new hotel into Lodi."
The three-story hotel will have an indoor heated pool and spa, a fitness center, a business center and meeting space for 100 people. Kim said her company will submit plans to the city by the end of the year and hopes to begin the $9 million construction in March.
Kim and her husband, Daniel Kim, have been in the hotel business since 1989. Their KFP company owns the Comfort Inn in Galt, which opened last year, and a Quality Inn in Sault Ste Marie, Mich.
The new owners of the Cherokee Lane Comfort Inn, SW Hospitality, will change the name to Quality Inn, which, along with Comfort Inn, is a brand under Maryland-based Choice Hotels International.
The new Comfort Suites will be located just east of Highway 99 next to the Plummer Pontiac dealership. Kim said she is happy with the location.
"I wish I had something more accessible to the freeway," she said. "I still think it will be a good spot, and we won't have freeway noise."
The new hotel is the latest bid to increase Lodi's tourism infrastructure. Geweke Real-estate Management is building a 101-room Hampton Inn and Suites near the new Comfort Suites, which is expected to open in early summer. The city has also been working with Wine and Roses developer Russ Munson to build an upscale Downtown hotel.
• Cost: $9 million
• Rooms: 89
• Amenities: Heated indoor pool, fitness center, business center, meeting room.

Lodi Conference and Visitors Bureau director Nancy Beckman said the time is right to add another hotel in Lodi.
"As far as making Lodi a wine destination, one of the things we need is new hotel products," she said. "This will help to keep visitors staying in the city limits overnight."
