Lady Flames back into the swing of things

The Lodi High girls tennis team picked up where it left off.

In their league opener, the Flames continued their dominance of the San Joaquin Athletic Association with their 128th consecutive league victory, sweeping Bear Creek 5-0 on Tuesday at Twin Arbors Country Club.

The last time the Flames (6-1, 1-0 SJAA) lost a league match was 1998.

In singles action, Ana Rocha defeated Claire del Rosario 6-0, 6-0, Millia Hinchman beat Julianna Rehbin 6-0, 6-0 and Alison Simon topped Izumie Hashimoto 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles play, Noelle Anderson and Courtney Bingham defeated Megan Chandarana and Serena Keasovang 6-1, 6-0 and Ana Adams and Jacque Lord defeated Lila Keasovang and Ly Bo 6-0, 6-0.

In an exhibition match, Shannon McOmber defeated Nikki Chao 6-1, 6-1.

Over the weekend, Lodi placed 25th out of 96 teams in the California High School Tennis Championships in Fresno. The Flames went 4-1 in the tournament, which included teams from throughout the state.

Nancy Urbick won the 2007 Woodbridge Women's Golf Association Club Championship with a total gross score of 247.

In the first flight, Carolyn Hoff had the top low gross of 265, followed by Patti Anderson (270). Jami Martin took third with a low net of 236. In the second flight, Patsy Lawson had a low gross net of 288, followed by Paula Compton (296). Susan Leveroni took third with a low net of 244.

In the third flight, Hilda Wentland had the top low gross of 304, followed by Pat Kishida (305). Peggy Canepa took third with a low net of 233. In the fourth flight, Beth Grady had the top low gross with a 326, followed by Millie Dellan (343). Cynthia Bannon took third with a low net of 243.

Galt 3, Rosemont 1


The visiting Warriors (7-3) won 25-15, 25-14, 24-26, 25-9. Jaclyn Pinasco had nine kills.

The junior varsity team (9-2) won 25-8, 25-6. Sydney Oliver had four kills and Cori de Diego had six aces. The freshmen team (4-2) won 25-5, 25-6. Shelby Richter had six aces and Amanda Hommond had five.

Galt will host Tokay on Thursday.

Alyssa Musto fired a 46 to lead the Tigers (2-0) to a victory in their Tri-City Athletic League opener at Lockeford Springs Golf Course.

Alex Ochoa shot a 52, Kasey Ota posted a 56, Katie Woznick hit a 57 and Maggie Macfarlane shot a 65.

Lodi 257, Bear Creek 317

Kercia Brakel shot a 37 to lead the Flames over the Bruins in their SJAA opener at The Reserve at Spanos Park.

Tara Miller shot a 47, Danielle Aldrich carded a 55, Justina Mujica posted a 58 and Sarah Boles shot a 60.

Cross Country
Elliot Christian


The varsity girls placed second in the preseason league meet at Legion Park in Modesto. Heidi Hathorn took second place for the Eagles with a time of 22 minutes, 55 seconds in the 3.1-mile race. Megan Crutchfield came in fourth (24:48), Amy Lambdin was 10th (27:29), Katie Anema took 12th (28:36) and Kristen Anema was 13th (28:53).

For the varsity boys, Luke LaRue was 7th (21:12), Garrett Fetzer was 8th (21:16), Sam Towne was 13th (22:05) and Andrew Cotton was 16th (22:45).

The junior varsity girls came in second in their 2-mile race. Jennifer Glasman took 10th (17:47), Jessie Towne came in 14th (18:47), Macie Ward was 16th (20:35), Jayde Hensley-Elliot was 17th (20:50) and Sarah Treat was 18th (21:12).

Patriots 28, Tokay Junior Tigers 18


Styles Schmidli rushed for 143 yards and three touchdowns, Mark Soto rushed for 35 yards and Chase Ramirez led the offensive line. Dylan Crawford led the defense with 15 tackles. Josh Kirshner, Raul Galvan, Jacob Escorpiso, Gentry Barwith and Rara Garnes had standout defensive performances. Logan Thruston had a sack.

The Patriots rookie team defeated the Tigers 26-0.

Weston Ranch 32, Lodi Junior Flames Black 7

Hunter Morrison had a TD run for the Flames and Trey Reese had a 35-yard run.

Jeffrey Seibel and Austin Mason both had three tackles.

Modesto 34, Flames Red 0

Isaac Sowers recovered a fumble and Jaret Trunnell had three tackles for the Flames. Justin Gonzalez had a goal-line stop.

Rookies
Flames Black 32, Weston Ranch 0


Sam Swinley rushed for 108 yards and a TD and Holden Butler ran for 86 yards and a score for the Flames. Chance Trammell rushed for 78 yards and a TD and Ryder Morrison ran for 81 yards. Jacob Souza ran for 54 yards and two TDs.

Drew Brunkhorst, Roberto Cortez and Jake Powell each had an interception for Lodi.

Modesto 31, Flames Red 24

Christopher Leonardini passed for 73 yards and Corbin Jory had 57 receiving yards for the Flames. Angelo Nemie ran for 71 yards and Matt Meehleis had three punt returns for 50 yards.

Adam Reese had six tackles.

Junior Varsity
Tigers 18, Patriots 6


The Tigers (4-0) were led by Brandon Beasley (eight carries, 65 yards) and Kawuan Lloyd, who returned a kick 60 yards for a touchdown. Daniel Thruston had eight tackles and Spencer Whyte had two sacks. Offensive lineman Whyte and linebacker Thruston were named the Tigers of the Week.

Flames Black 21, Weston Ranch 20

Alex Hunt was 10-for-21 for 127 yards and two TDs for the Flames and David White ran for 126 yards and a score. Cheo Tessaro rushed for 58 yards and a TD and T.J. Ortiz added 44 yards and a score.

Dustin Sefried had six tackles, Cole Range had four and John Knerl and Tessaro each had three.

Flames Red 18, Modesto 6

Eric Gardea rushed for two TDs and Michael Ybarra also ran for a score. Gerardo Gutierrez led the defense with eight tackles and Mathew Somers added five and also caused a fumble. Michael Ybarra recovered a fumble and Gary Norwood and Keith Trent both had an interception.

Varsity
Patriots 13, Tigers 0


In a battle of first and second place teams, Ryan Rogero had three catches for 93 yards, while Paul Castro and Tyler Smalley led the rushing attack. The defense was led by Anthony Garcia, Smalley, David Paler and Steven Harris.

Flames Black 6, Weston Ranch 0

Logan Maloney had a 20-yard TD run for the Flames and Joey Armstrong rushed for 70 yards.

Lodi's defense had eight sacks and held the Ravens to 68 yards of offense.

Modesto 28, Flames Red 26

Ian Guerrero rushed 14 times for 115 yards and a TD, had three catches for 35 yards and a score and also returned a kickoff 99 yards for a TD for the Flames.

Tyler Wonnell had two catches for 58 yards and a score and Harrison Stone was 10-of-21 for 148 yards and two TDs.

Tyler Herrin led the defense with seven tackles and Greg Hertzfelt had an interception.

Basketball
Adult League Registration


Sign-ups for the adult basketball season are currently being accepted and will end Sept. 26 at the Lodi Parks and Recreation Department, 125 N. Stockton St.

There will be a $50 late fee for any roster turned in after Sept. 26.

Team fees are $375 for the 10-game season, which begins on Oct. 22. For more information, call the parks and rec department at 333-6742.
