Three seats open on Thornton fire board
One incumbent on the Thornton Rural Fire District board has filed for re-election to the five-member board.
Bill Stokes filed his papers Monday with the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters. Incumbent Mary Grundman had not filed by late Monday morning, said registrar official Gina Verstrepen.
And the seat of new board member Jim Allan, who was appointed by the remaining fire board members on July 12, is up for election. Allan replaced Karen Honer, who resigned on May 31. Honer served only seven months on the board after being appointed on Oct. 12 to replace Jacob Doushy, who resigned. However, Verstrepen said she wasn't informed of Honer's resignation until she received a letter from the fire district on July 25.
The filing deadline for the November ballot expires at 5 p.m. Friday. If either Grundman or Allan doesn't submit their election papers by that time, the filing period will be extended until 5 p.m. Aug. 8.
