Stockton man dies in solo-vehicle crash in Woodbridge

A Stockton man died Tuesday after veering off Woodbridge Road, side-swiping a tree and flipping his Chevrolet Camaro.

The 38-year-old man, whose name was not immediately released, was trapped inside his gray 1988 car and pronounced dead at the scene just west of the town of Woodbridge.

Nobody witnessed the solo-vehicle crash, but a nearby resident heard the noise and called authorities around 11:35 a.m. She later declined to comment but was still visibly upset.

Firefighters had to extricate the man from his car, which had landed on its roof and was crushed past the seats' head rests.

The victim had been wearing a seat belt and there was no sign of drug or alcohol involvement, California Highway Patrol Officer Sid Miller said.

The man was driving eastbound past Davis Road when he left the roadway toward the shoulder. Skid marks showed a straight path, meaning it's unlikely that he veered suddenly to avoid something, Miller said.

The skid marks continued off the right side of the road and showed the car's path between a telephone pole and a large tree. The car missed the pole by inches but hit the tree and kept going before rolling over.
