Upset over placement of motorcycles

Updated: Friday, June 15, 2007 11:44 PM PDT

Last Saturday while traveling down Sacramento Street there was a tent set up with motorcycles for sale parked underneath. I had no problem with that until the car in front of me suddenly stopped to look. This caused me to do a hard break; and the car behind me had to do the same. After recovering from what could have been a disastrous situation, I wasn't OK with that display anymore. I was upset, as my small children were in the back seat (safely secured).

After doing some searching through the city of Lodi Web site, I found this: L.M.C. 10.44.040 - "Notwithstanding subsection A of this section, it is unlawful to park upon any public street, right-of-way or public place within two-hundred feet of any signalized intersection, or all-way stop controlled intersection, or within seventy-five feet of any other intersection, any vehicle, vessel or trailer for sale. The city council finds and declares that this constitutes a traffic hazard by distracting the attention of passing motorists and pedestrians away from other traffic moving through and about such intersections."

All I request is that this display be moved to a safer location, and for the business person to kindly take into consideration the L.M.C. set forth by our City Council members.

" Instead of writing this letter you should have called the City of Lodi so they could have fined them, if there is a city ordinance like you stated. Kindly asking will do nothing these days. "

" If someone infront of you has to make a hard stop and you stopped then you are following in right distance. Take it as you are a good driver. If you tailgate then that would have been a mess right, not because he stopped but because you were not following DMW Handbook rules for driving. But good job for not tailgating, busy body.. "

" Duh: Good point. There is no excuse for unsafe driving. "

" Yes, I agree. That display should not have been there. Probably some soccer mom looking for a Father's Day present for her husband... a used Moto Guzzi or Harley. "

" Why are you so concerned with the motorcycles? Maybe if you had not been tailgating you wouldn not have had to do a "hard break" when traffic stopped ahead of you. What if it had been a child running in the street after an errant ball? Would you scour the local ordinances looking for a ban on ball sports? The guy in the car ahead of you was an idiot for stopping and you were caught either daydreaming or tailgating. Stop blaming others and give a bit more room ahead of you when you drive. "

" if you had to "hard break", thats your fault, and means you were following too close. maybe you need driving lessons "
