Sieglock running for 10th Assembly seat
Ex-Lodi mayor Nakanishi says 'He's an excellent choice for San Joaquin'
Former Lodi Mayor and San Joaquin County Supervisor Jack Sieglock will run for the 10th Assembly seat held by Alan Nakanishi, R-Lodi.

Sieglock confirmed Thursday that he will run, but a formal announcement is a few months away, he said. Nakanishi, also a former Lodi mayor, is serving his third and final two-year term. He will be forced to step down at the end of 2008 due to term limits.
"I believe I have a lot to offer," Sieglock said. "My experience is second to none."
Sieglock was elected to the Lodi City Council in 1990 and he served two years as mayor. In 1998, he began a pair of four-year terms representing the Lodi area on the board of supervisors. He stepped down in January from his county seat due to term limits.
Sieglock said he has pulled papers to form a campaign committee and has begun the fund-raising process.
"He's an excellent choice for San Joaquin," Nakanishi said Thursday. "He has experience with the city council, as mayor and the board of supervisors. He's a local boy from Lodi."
Sieglock is confident in his ability to represent the area at the state level.
He cites his experience with infrastructure, water, Delta and transportation issues.
Other issues, he said, include caring for an aging population and putting aside money for a rainy day in case disaster strikes.

Greg Aghazarian, a Stockton Republican representing rural areas east of Lodi, has announced that he will seek the 5th Senate District seat held by Mike Machado, D-Linden, who will step down after the 2008 election due to term limits.
Aghazarian, rumored to be running in 2008 for the congressional seat held by Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton, decided to seek the state Senate seat so he can continue to live in Stockton, said Carl Fogliani, Aghazarian's chief of staff. Aghazarian has three young children.
The district includes parts of Stockton, plus Tracy and Manteca in San Joaquin County. The district also covers Walnut Grove, a portion of Elk Grove and parts of Solano and Yolo counties.

"My conservative style of fiscal management is important," Sieglock said.
Sieglock said he has the skills to work with Democrats in the Legislature. He gained that experience by working with Democrats like Dario Marenco and Steve Gutierrez on the board.
"We were able to forge some comprises on issues," Sieglock said. "I believe I'm someone who can build consensus. If you have good ideas, it's hard to deny those ideas."
Sieglock said he has employed Johnson Clark Associates and Wendy Warfield, the same campaign consultants who ran Nakanishi's campaigns.
"I have lot of respect for Alan," Sieglock said. "I appreciate Alan's service and everything he's done."
Sieglock may have some competition in the Republican primary in 2008, with candidates rumored from Rancho Cordova and El Dorado County.
The 10th Assembly District includes the Lodi area east to roughly Bruella Road, north Stockton, eastern Elk Grove, Rancho Cordova, Rancho Murieta, El Dorado Hills and Amador County.
