State FFA center to open Wednesday in Galt
The California Future Farmers of America will conduct the grand opening of their new state headquarters at 11 a.m. Wednesday on six acres just west of Highway 99 near Walnut Avenue.
A.G Kawamura, secretary for the California Department of Food and Agriculture, will offer opening remarks to an audience of more than 1,000 FFA members and guests.
The first phase will consist of offices and dormitories for state FFA officers. When completed, the state FFA Center will serve as a leadership development site with technology for leadership and communication training. It will also include laboratory classrooms for curriculum development and meeting rooms.
Members, alumni and friends of the FFA have raised $2.3 million for the project. Additional funds to complete this first phase were made available through the USDA Rural Development Communities Program.
McNerney to appear in Stockton today
Rep. Jerry McNerney, R-Pleasanton, will be available to the public from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. today at the Sherwood Mall food court, 5308 Pacific Ave., Stockton.
McNerney's appearance will be part of his new program called "Congress at Your Corner." Throughout the year, he will schedule public appearances at locations like grocery stores and shopping centers.
