Lodi
Kindergarten roundup starts Monday
Parents of kindergarten-aged children are urged to join the "kindergarten roundup."
Registration is done for two weeks, from Feb. 5 to 16 at schools throughout the district. Children who will be 5 on or before Dec. 2 of this year may be registered. Generally, register at the elementary school closest to home.
Parents or guardians must provide the following:
• Official birth certificate
• A utility bill, rent or lease agreement or bill of sale, for address verification
• Record of required immunizations: Polio; diphtheria, pertussis/whooping cough, tetanus (DPT/DT/Td); measles, mumps, rubella (MMR); hepatitis B, varicella/chickenpox.
Incoming kindergartners must be able to sit and listen to a story, hold a pencil and crayon correctly, draw a "person," cut with scissors on a line, use the restroom and wash hands without help, and adjust well to being away from parents.

Galt looks to revitalize flea market
The Galt City Council has eliminated the $2 parking fee for its city-owned Tuesday and Wednesday flea market.
By a 3-2 vote, the council voted to drop the fee and refund money collected from parking tickets. Mayor Tim Raboy said the move was to attract shoppers to the 10-acre market.
"It is good will to get people to visit and tell their friends to visit," he said.
The council also voted 5-0 to reduce the fees for produce vendors at the Wednesday market. The Wednesday market, which had been waning in popularity, will also add new merchandise vendors, Raboy said.
Raboy said city staff was also looking at the possibility of adding an evening produce market in downtown Galt, similar to the Lodi Farmer's Market.
"We're hoping to bring people back to the market," Raboy said.
