McNerney makes visit to Lodi today
Congressman Jerry McNerney will visit Lodi today to get to know the city's elected leaders, top staff members and key issues.
McNerney will meet with Mayor Bob Johnson and Vice Mayor JoAnne Mounce in what both sides describe as an informal "meet and greet" session.
This is McNerney's first meeting with city officials since his November election victory over incumbent Richard Pombo.
"There are several federally related issues we will be faced with," Johnson said. "We are concerned about wastewater requirements, electric utility associated costs and transportation issues."
He said the private, afternoon meeting is a good chance to get to know McNerney.
"This is our first association with him so we don't want all the bells and whistles going off," he said. "We are trying to get to know him."
Andy Stone, communications director for McNerney's office, said the congressman is looking forward to a good working relationship with Lodi officials.
"This introductory meeting is so the congressman can hear about what's important to the folks in Lodi," Stone said.
Also meeting with McNerney are City Manager Blair King and other senior city staff.
King said the meeting "does not have a heavy agenda."
"The purpose of the meeting is to open up lines of communication," King said. "It will be a brief overview of Lodi issues. We will let him know we are open and willing to help him with the formulation of policy."
McNerney, a wind energy specialist, serves on the Science and Technology Committee, Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and Veterans Affairs Committee.
